Welcome back to Sunday Poser # 46

My question this week is;

Do you like surprises?

Surprise birthday or anniversary party count usually as a pleasant surprise. But life can throw unpleasant surprises at us without notice as well.

While most people take pleasant surprises in their stride, unpleasant surprises really throw them off.

I have rarely been surprised with a party, but many many times with gifts that I had wanted. My elder daughter is the one who lavishes expensive presents on me. While my husband is the practical type and always asks what I want for an upcoming birthday or anniversary!

As for unpleasant surprises, I usually adjust after a while to them. I think there is a part of my brain who expects bad things to happen. It is balanced by my optimism but when bad/ unpleasant things happen, I am not very surprised. I try to find a silver lining in those dark clouds.

So this is my story!

What about you? How do you handle the good and not so good surprises?

Welcome to another Sunday Poser

This week my question is very basic;

Why do you blog?

We all have started our blogs for different reasons. Some have done to further develop their talents as writers or poets. While others have done so just to express their views and thoughts.

I started my blog exactly three years ago. It was an impulsive decision but gradually it grew into a way to express me.

I find that writing/ blogging is a way to keep my mind sharp. I need to find words to express my thoughts. I check on spellings and the proper grammatical usage of the words I am writing.

It also is a way where I say what I want to say. In a world where most people are too busy to give time to each other, this blogging community is generous and kind. They read each other’s thoughts and stories and respond with their own.

It is also my therapy. I share my thoughts and worries here and find that others have similar concerns. By spending $100 a year, I get very good supportive therapy.

Blogging also gives me a direction in life. I now have a constructive purpose for all the empty hours I had at my disposal. If any one of my posts can cheer even one of my readers, my purpose is realized.

And lastly, but certainly not the least is the encouragement and appreciation that I receive here. It makes me so happy to read the positive feedback left in comments on my posts.

These are the reasons why in blog!

What are yours?

Welcome to week 44 of Sunday Poser

I have been busy with a project in real life that may result in me relocating to another city. That’s why I haven’t been able to comment much on your posts. That brings me to my question this week;

How much time do you spend on responding to comments?

I usually read the posts of those I follow when I get to my blog in the morning. My comments are usually short but I read the whole of the post before commenting. Some bloggers leave lengthy comments and observations on the posts from other bloggers. I always admire that and wish I had so much time to do that too.

But perhaps the reason I don’t do that is that I follow a lot of blogs.

So do you leave short comments on the blogs that you visit or thoughtful, long comments?

Please share your thoughts in the comments section or you can write your own post and link it to this post.

Thanks for visiting and reading.

Welcome to week 43 of Sunday Poser

Summer is almost over. Autumn is in the air and in few weeks we will feel the chill of autumn nights.

So my question this week is;

What is your favorite thing about summer?

Personally, I am not a big fan of summer weather. The reason is that in my country, it gets very hot in the months of May and June, and when monsoon starts in mid July, it gets very humid and muggy as well.

But having said that, there still stress things I like about summer;

Mangoes 🥭

I love the sweet, tangy taste of mangoes, especially in a fruit salad. By themself, they are too sweet for my palate but mixed with apples, peaches, and guavas they make the perfect fruit bowl.

Cool airy summer clothes;

Since it’s very hot here in summer, we have different wardrobes for summer and winter. Our summer clothes are lightweight cotton and stitched loosely to compensate for the hot weather.

Sitting and sleeping in an air conditioned room

Using air conditioning in summer is a must in my city. It is expensive to run air conditioners all day so we use them sparingly but at nighttime, it’s essential to have it on. The cool air makes sleeping a bliss in summers.

Longer days.

As compared to winters the days are longer and one can get a lot accomplished during summer days.

These are my favorite things about summer. What are yours?

Welcome to another Sunday Poser.

Today my question is about pros and cons of reblogging!

What is your opinion about Reblogging; yes or no?

There are two parts of this question;

1. Reblogging posts from other bloggers;

I usually reblog the first 2-3 responses to my weekly prompt, WDYS on Monday. These reblogs are before my regular posts. I usually use the reblog button at the site of the blogger. This generates an automatic notification about the reblog. I get a positive feedback from those who’s posts I am sharing.

2. Others reblogging your posts;

Now to the other part of this equation. There are a few bloggers who routinely reblog my posts. They do it through the reblog button and I get notifications from this activity. But recently, I am seeing posts linked to my published posts in the comments. When I click on the links, I’m taken to an unknown blog where the blogger has shared my post, in a proper way, but without using the reblog button. They never intimate me or ask for permission. This is something which irritates me and Paula has also noticed and talked about it in her post.

My question here is; Are you okay when your posts are reblogged?

And do you feel that the one reblogging/sharing should ask your permission or intimate you beforehand?

The last question is even more important, do you read reblogged posts?

Please share your thoughts in the comments section.

Wow, the month of August is more than half way through. Welcome back to another Sunday Poser

My question this week is;

Are you a risk taker?

Taking risks falls into two categories. One is the everyday type of risks like choosing a new restaurant to dine in or taking a different route while driving. And then there is the other kind, like making life-altering decisions, financial investments, or doing something that could be dangerous, like sky or bungee jumping!

I would class myself as a person who plays it safe most of the time. When asked for my food preference, I opt for the tried and tested favorites. Same with holiday destinations. The only risky holiday I had was when I opted to go to Turkey with my friends. It was a fantastic holiday and has encouraged me to be more adventurous.

As for life altering decisions, I’m afraid that I am a chicken. I would do what is the safest. I’ve only once stepped out of my comfort zone when I moved to America with my daughter and grandson. And that decision was taken by my mother’s heart, putting all fears of unknown aside!

This is my answer.

What is yours? How often you step out of your comfort zone and take risks?

Please share your thoughts in the comments section or you can post the answer in your own blog post. But do remember to link it to my post so that I can find your post.

This week my question is;

How do you manage stress?

We all have stressful times. Daily, weekly or once in a while, if we are lucky. No one can say that they have a totally stress free life.

Learning to manage stress is one of the survival skills. I have a few strategies;

  • Go for a long walk
  • Talk to myself about my problems, this helps me put things in their proper perspective
  • Listen to music, something spiritually uplifting
  • Read an interesting book
  • Blogging; reading blogs often makes me forget my own stresses
  • Watch something silly on tv

These are some of the ways I manage my stress.

What do you do when you feel stressed?

Welcome to week 39 of Sunday Poser

It is always handy if one is good at fixing things. my question this week is;

Can you fix stuff?

I love fixing things that are broken or have stopped working. I learned it from my father. I was the only one who could fix a blown fuse or replace an electric plug or even a cord. All three of my brothers were not interested in doing the small maintenance chores around the house.

If an ornament breaks and I find the pieces, I try to glue it together like a jigsaw puzzle. It is very satisfying. I fix the toys my little grandkids break because buying new ones is just a waste. In short, I think of myself as a mechanic and love trying to fix things.

So what about you? Any aptitude for fixing broken things?

Please share your thoughts in the thoughts or if you like, in a post of your own. But do link it to this one so that I can find yours.

Week 38 already! Welcome back to another Sunday Poser

My question this week is;

What is your Zodiac sign and do you believe that it has an effect on your life or personality?

I am a Sagittarius, born on 23rd November. My date of birth falls between two signs, Sagittarius and Scorpio. So my personality has the characteristics of both signs. I am clumsy like most Sagittarians, have a sense of humor, and often come across as a know it all. I’m passionate about knowledge and social justice and these are qualities of Scorpions.

I believe that people born under a star sign share certain qualities. But I don’t believe in horoscopes or that they will have a similar day or life. That to my mind is not logical.

So what is your Zodiac sign? and do you even believe in them?

Welcome to Week 37 of Sunday Poser

Today a simple question;

How are you today?

We ask each other this question when we meet or talk. But very few really want to know , hope we really are.

Today I want to know how you’re feeling! I want you to share your joys or troubles with me because sharing is good for us.

Today is Sunday so it’s usually a relaxing day for me. But today I need to get my roots dyed because I have to attend a wedding ceremony. It’s family so we cannot get out of the obligation. And then next Wednesday, it’s Eid-ul-Adha. So it will serve a dual purpose for me.

Yesterday I saw the orthopedic doctor and he diagnosed the pain in my left ankle and heel as arthritic. I plan to get a steroid injection in there next Saturday.

So this is my news, and what is yours?
