QUESTIONS:

Why do we have such trouble telling our loved ones that we love them?  Do you have that kind of communication issue with your loved ones?

Above question inspired by this short, poignant blog post:

https://mitchteemley.com/2019/10/10/love-before-its-too-late-2/

I didn’t tell my parents that I loved them. I guess we were from the generation who weren’t taught to do that or it was understood that all children love their parents. I husband and kids and grandkids that I love them. Many times and often. But I find it easier to say it in a text message rather than face to face!

Decorations for holidays?   Spirit lifters or pain in the butt?   Or a mix?

Both I guess. But as we get older it’s more of later than former. Though I still love to decorate with fresh flowers and even cost more money than I like, I still prefer them to other forms of decorations.

Do you donate to charities?  Of your time, do you feel money is the only true gift, or other?  (nod to Rory for this idea)

I do. But only to those charities which I trust. I have thought of volunteering but that scheme is still in the air. But I give away things that I haven’t used since a couple of years. Sometimes people need money and at others goods can be of use too. Kindness and smiles are gifts that can be generously shared and are always beneficial both to the receiver and the giver.

Are you too superstitious or  have you ever played with a Ouija Board?

As kids we did but only as a joke. I am not superstitious at all. Nothing to fear from broken mirrors, black cats out walking under the ladders. Number 13 doesn’t hold any terror for me either.

QUESTIONS:

Earlier this week Rory asked a question that I found so interesting, I thought I’d share it.  Another question, similar to this one was asked in August, but this one is unique.

If confronted with a violent crime against a single individual in progress (severe beating, rape, assault) do you try to do something about it (phone authorities or confront the criminal, stop the crime) or do you figure it’s none of your business and walk or drive on by?  Worse (to me) would you record the crime for social media use without doing anything else?

In such a situation, not doing anything is not an option. At the least I would inform the police or authorities. If the situation is limited to verbal exchange, I think I would get involved personally but if it is a violent exchange, I would call 911 immediately.

Taking pictures or making videos to be shared on social media is worse than not doing anything.

Okay now we got the heavy stuff out of the way, let’s get to some less stressful questions.

If someone asked to be your apprentice and learn all that you know, what would you teach them?

I think I can teach them all about food and eating the right kind of food. Being overweight all my adult life, I have gained a lot of knowledge regarding diets and eating for health. Though my own choices leave much to be desired, I do know my stuff and probably can teach an apprentice very well.

First think of a product. Now, what would be the absolute worst brand name for one of those products?

Pills for constipation. The name ” Use it and lose it”

What ridiculous and untrue, yet slightly plausible, theories can you come up with for the cause of common ailments like headaches or cavities?

Headaches are caused by glittering dresses worn by people who engage in insipid conversation. The reason is that the light reflected of the glittering dress irritates the eyes and the insipid talk irritates the mind. The combination can trigger mother of all headaches.

QUESTIONS:

When was the last time you face palmed?   (for those who aren’t familiar with what that is, here’s a visual for you: )

Image result for face palm

I think whenever I see the news. Though I try my best to avoid it but sometimes it reaches my eyes and ears. The stupid statements made by one orange baboon make me not only slap my face but also to pull out my hair in frustration.

When is censorship warranted?  Ever?

I think censorship is needed when we need to make sure that a content which is based on hate and lies is not open to people likely to get hurt or angered by it. It should not be tool in the hands of the powerful to edit what others hear about them. It should be used to protect the innocent and people who already have suffered at the hands of people wielding the tool of misinformation.

If there were commandments for the modern day world, what should (could, would) some of them be?  Get creative!

• You shall not use your phone while driving.

• You shall not use your phone while crossing the road.

• You shall not put on the music so loud as to wake up the whole neighborhood.

• You shall drive like a sane person.

• You shall keep your phone on silent during a movie, concert, meeting or theatre performances.

•You shall not abuse the resources of planet earth.

•There shall be no fracking .

•You shall not park in between two parking slots.

What did you Google last?

A photo for my daily prompts post. I do that daily. I also google a lot of medical info and information concerning diet and healthy eating.

Gratitude is an Attitude:

This week I’m not asking for shares of things people are thankful for, I’m doing a re-blog and point to Beckie’s Mental Mess blog.    She’s started a whole ‘gratitude movement’ with her new weekly challenge:  “Pop of Positivity”.    Here’s a link to her first post in this effort:

QUESTIONS:

Courtesy of Rory:

Are we losing the art of listening in comparison to simply hearing?

We are! Mostly we are impatient and don’t even let the talker finish before we lodge into our own dialogue. I am myself guilty of this because of my impulsive nature. We should not only listen but also think when we are in conversation with someone.

How often do you openly discuss with friends or here in WP with your readership topics that make you feel uncomfortable or may be taboo or stigma laden?

The issues which are considered taboo in polite company are mostly politics and religious beliefs. Other than these, mental illness, our own or other’s are also considered taboo. I do discuss all and any subject that I feel I can discuss with any authority. One should have a proper grasp of the topic before we express our opinions on it. But most subjects are open for discussion on my blog. The only exceptions are topics of very personal nature. I don’t feel comfortable discussing them or commenting on them.

Do you think that these discussions should be freely discussed and written about more?

I definitely do. Discussion is good way to enrich our knowledge.

Did you have a nickname as a child and if so, what was [or what is it now]?

Not that I remember.

Why is there still ‘stuff’ we simply just don’t understand despite our progressive world?

There will always be “Stuff” that would be beyond human comprehension. And frankly we are better off not knowing Everything!

Would you rather double your height or lose half your weight?  (In response to last week’s double your weight, half your height query).  Thanks Leslie!

Suggestion by Leslie – Swot8

Definitely half my weight. It would make me the ideal weight for my height. Perfect solution to my health problems.

What is your most essential kitchen tool?  (Can be a person you know.  For the non-cooks in the crowd).

QUESTIONS:

What’s the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery or came into a huge fortune?

The first thing would be a celebration! When it comes to spending, (BTW, how large is this fortune?) I will keep half of it for my family and children. The other half can go to various charities. We support charities providing healthcare to poor people in third world countries, and those that provide food and shelters.

Which decade do you think had the best sense of style?

I was a young adult in 80’s . The big hairdos and extravagant fashions were sort of charming to me then. Nowadays things are pretty simple, as in we dress how we feel comfortable. So this is a good time too. No pressure to be fashion conscious. Or maybe it’s my age that I feel no pressure to follow any trend that I am not happy in!

Would you rather be half your height or double your weight?

Absolutely neither! I would like to be half my weight or twice my height. Both situations will put me in desirable weight range for my height. Though being more than eleven feet tall would be challenging!

If you wanted to get away from everyone totally, where would you hide?

In my home, by switching off my phone. It’s the perfect place to hide.

What do you do that you love?

I love reading my favorite genre of books, I love writing my blog, and while doing all this I like listening to my current favorite songs ( Which I am doing now) I also love spending time with my family. Specially my grand babies who have just turned five months old this week.

Life is good and God is kind!

Wow.  September.   Where did the summer go?   I’m not at all sure…anyway.  This week finds us with some more questions, but this week they’re all ‘deep’ ones requiring a little thought.   Enjoy!

  5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.

QUESTIONS:

When you’re 90 years old, what do you suppose will matter most to you?

I hope I am in good health and able to fend for myself. That is important for me that I am self-sufficient at that age too. I hope I still have good vision and hearing so that I can read, write, blog and enjoy music. And most importantly I don’t want to be a bitter, angry or cranky old woman. I want to age gracefully with a kind and generous heart.

What’s the best way to spend a rainy afternoon?

Indoors with a good cup of coffee and good conversation. Maybe something nice and spicy to eat!!!

What is one thing you don’t understand about yourself?

After so many times that I have managed to reduce my weight, why do I put it all back? I know food should not be used as comfort nor for rewarding oneself, but here I am thinking of starting another diet as soon as I get back home!

When was the last time you tried something to look ‘cool’ (hip), but it ended in utter embarrassment?   Details?

Maybe it was when my son got married. I wanted an updo, despite having short hair. So after an hour or so all the hair was in complete disarray falling on my face. I just don’t want to look at those wedding pictures, ever!

GRATITUDE/I’M SO THANKFUL!

This is an opportunity to share a picture, a story or event that shows your gratitude.

I am grateful that I had the opportunity to spend a few months with my daughter and grandson in Seattle. I am heading home today. It was a really wonderful trip. We had a fantastic time exploring Washington state.

QUESTIONS:

If you had to sum up the whole human species in 3 words, what would those words be?

Trying to survive.

Where is the strangest place you’ve relieved yourself?  Obviously in an emergency situation.

In a men’s toilet. ( No details)

What is the worst smelling place you’ve ever been?

I think the worst smelling place would be a collection of hypocrites calling themselves gentlemen ( or ladies). The smell of garbage and rotting things pales in comparison to the stench coming from these vultures who are bleeding our planet dry for their own gains! ( rant over)

How drunk is drunk enough?

When you think you are sober but the whole of town knows that you aren’t.

Gratitude Is An Attitude!

If you’d like, please list five things that are priceless to you.

My family

My peace of mind

The planet we live in

The clean air we need to breathe

And clean water we need to survive

There are people who are after the last three of these precious thing, hellbent on destroying them. They have no regard for the future of our coming generations.

  5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.
  6. For the “Gratitude” portion of this week’s Share Your World, I’m using a graphic.  Sometimes that gets rid of the image too.

QUESTIONS:

What would be your solution to the over-population of the earth?   Earth has finite resources and humanity seems to be breeding themselves to extinction.   Some countries have tried restricting the number of children a couple or a person can have, with little success.  So what other viable options are there for reducing the number of people?

This is a very tricky question with no sensible or humane answer. Planning for people to have fewer kids has failed in most overly populated countries except China, but telling people that they cannot have a second child seems to be inhumane. If you have read Dan Brown’s “Inferno” you know the crazy idea one scientist came up with. Annihilating half of the world population through a virus. In Marvel‘s “infinity war” the villain Thenos wanted to kill off half of the people in the universe to restore the balance.

So though these ideas are super crazy and totally un-implementable, there is no other sane idea except to ask the people nicely to have fewer babies after educating them about the ill-effects of over populating the earth.

(Okay, the rest will be ‘recycled’ questions.   I got a Sunshine Blogger Award recently and I thought some of the questions on that post were kinda nifty.   So “recycle”! )

What’s invisible but you wish people could see?

Human kindness and courage. Then we would be less likely to make snap judgments about people.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?

My knowledge of the ridiculous is great.

This I got from google!

What are the unwritten rules of where you work? If you don’t work (retired or unemployed) what are the unwritten rules you live your life by?

I don’t work, but my unwritten rule for my life is;

Let me decide and set the pace for my life, myself. No one should do that for me!

How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza?

Love them!

Toilet paper, over or under?

Over, every time. Makes the usage easy.

What’s the best type of cheese?

All are good but Cheese cake is the best. ( Idea stolen from Di )

I am spending the last weeks of my vacation with my grandson. His school will be starting soon. So whenever I give in to his requests of letting him have more screen time or playing with his friends, he tells me that ” I am the best grandma in the worldIsn’t that a moment to celebrate! And he then tells me that even if I don’t let him do as he wants, I still will be the best grandma!

As promised this week’s Share Your World is far more light hearted than last week’s.    Effusive thanks to Mel of “Crushed Caramel..” for the graphic.   I snagged it off her SYW post from last week.

I will post four or five different questions each week for you to answer.  There are two ways which you can participate.

  5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.

QUESTIONS:

What makes you laugh?

I have a quirky sense of humor. I laugh at myself most of all, my silly mistakes and blunders. It takes little to make me smile and be happy. But one thing that I don’t enjoy is the discomfort of others. That’s why the funny videos of people falling or getting hurt doing crazy things is not going to make me laugh.

What’s the world coming to?  (Credit to Mel of Crushed Caramel…)

We started civilization in caves. Maybe we are going back to that. Trying to destroy each other, hate on basis of someone being different are are signs of primitive thinking.

In one sentence sum up the Internet.

Don’t take what you read on the internet as the gospel truth.

If over time you replace parts on a car, at what point does it stop being the same car you bought? How many parts do you need to replace to make it a new car?

A new body and engine. If the seatbelts are from the previous car, it’s okay.

Gratitude is an attitude.   Yea or nay?   Explain your viewpoint please!

I liked how Fandango differentiated between gratitude and attitude. I agree. We can have an attitude of gratitude and it is a blessing to have it. But plain attitude is just a pain, if you’re getting my drift. There is a need to teach people to be grateful and mindful of all the blessings of life. It will also change our attitude and make us happier and more contented.

 She says;

Okay then.   Now fair WARNING.   This week’s Share Your World is rather grim.  More hatred and divisiveness in America, resulting in a lot of innocent people dying at the hands of unbalanced men.   With guns.    So if you’d rather not participate this week, no worries.   Next week should see a return to a more upbeat theme.   All the questions this week are philosophical in nature.

I will post four or five different questions each week for you to answer.  There are two ways which you can participate.

  1. Create a SYW post.  Then post the link to your blog in my comment box or leave your answers in the comments box of my blog.

  5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.

QUESTIONS:

Does life have a reason (meaning)?

Indeed it does. Otherwise everything is futile. All of us have a purpose and a role to play in our lifetime. It could be something big, like an invention or being a leader or it could be something that is not that prominent but important nonetheless. We may have a pivotal role in a sequence of events which in itself is of great value. And most importantly, I think we have to validate our existence by our actions. Prove worthy of being given life and all the blessings which come with it.

Will the world come to an end by human hands (man’s actions)?

It may look like this right now but we are too small to bring about the end of the world. We may be the cause of the end of civilized society, the way we are propagating hatred and violence. Putting up walls and discriminating against each other.

Will stricter laws make a better world?  Would less strict law make it better?

Stricter gun laws, enforcement of laws and rules and maintaining a unbiased form of judgment for everyone may really improve the way we live now.

If death is inevitable, why bother doing anything?

Death comes to us all, and nobody lives for ever. But should we just let go and not make an effort to live good lives? Than that life would be worse than death. We need to believe in making an effort to be good, to be kind and to be better than what we are. This is the purpose of living and when we die, we will have the satisfaction of living a good life.

Skull and Crossbones Icon on White Background. Vector illustration

Are thoughts and prayers useful or a sop for people who wish to pay respect but interact through a virtual venue?   Yea or nay – please explain your viewpoint (without rancor) if you would.

For people who are suffering, kind words and thoughts are like a balm on a wound. If we are in a position to do something practically and still we just verbalize our feelings than that is not right. However if we have no way of actually helping those people physically or practically, our thoughts, words and prayers tell them that we are thinking about them and are sharing in their sorrows.
