share-your-world

Melanie of Sparks from a Combustible Mind has asked her weekly questions;

I will post four or five different questions each week for you to answer.  There are two ways which you can participate.

  1. Create a SYW post.  Then post the link to your blog in my comment box or leave your answers in the comments box of my blog.
  2. To make it easy for others to check out your post, title your blog post “Share Your World”  and link it to this post.
  3. Remember to Follow My Blog to get your weekly reminders.
  4.  Ping-backs are activated, but how efficiently varies.  For instructions on how ping-backs work, in case you weren’t certain, please click here.  You may wish to leave a link to your blog post in the comments just to be sure.  Thanks!
  5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.
  6. For the “Gratitude” portion of this week’s Share Your World, I’m using a graphic.  Sometimes that gets rid of the image too.

QUESTIONS:

What would be your solution to the over-population of the earth?   Earth has finite resources and humanity seems to be breeding themselves to extinction.   Some countries have tried restricting the number of children a couple or a person can have, with little success.  So what other viable options are there for reducing the number of people?

This is a very tricky question with no sensible or humane answer. Planning for people to have fewer kids has failed in most overly populated countries except China, but telling people that they cannot have a second child seems to be inhumane. If you have read Dan Brown’s “Inferno” you know the crazy idea one scientist came up with. Annihilating half of the world population through a virus. In Marvel‘s “infinity war” the villain Thenos wanted to kill off half of the people in the universe to restore the balance.

So though these ideas are super crazy and totally un-implementable, there is no other sane idea except to ask the people nicely to have fewer babies after educating them about the ill-effects of over populating the earth.

(Okay, the rest will be ‘recycled’ questions.   I got a Sunshine Blogger Award recently and I thought some of the questions on that post were kinda nifty.   So “recycle”! )

What’s invisible but you wish people could see?

Human kindness and courage. Then we would be less likely to make snap judgments about people.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?

My knowledge of the ridiculous is great.

This I got from google!

What are the unwritten rules of where you work? If you don’t work (retired or unemployed) what are the unwritten rules you live your life by?

I don’t work, but my unwritten rule for my life is;

Let me decide and set the pace for my life, myself. No one should do that for me!

How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza?

Love them!

Toilet paper, over or under?

Over, every time. Makes the usage easy.

What’s the best type of cheese?

All are good but Cheese cake is the best. ( Idea stolen from Di )

GRATITUDE

If you’d like, please share something positive, uplifting or funny from last week.   We can always use some more of those things!

I am spending the last weeks of my vacation with my grandson. His school will be starting soon. So whenever I give in to his requests of letting him have more screen time or playing with his friends, he tells me that ” I am the best grandma in the worldIsn’t that a moment to celebrate! And he then tells me that even if I don’t let him do as he wants, I still will be the best grandma!

As promised this week’s Share Your World is far more light hearted than last week’s.    Effusive thanks to Mel of “Crushed Caramel..” for the graphic.   I snagged it off her SYW post from last week.

I will post four or five different questions each week for you to answer.  There are two ways which you can participate.

  1. Create a SYW post.  Then post the link to your blog in my comment box or leave your answers in the comments box of my blog.

  5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.

QUESTIONS:

What makes you laugh?

I have a quirky sense of humor. I laugh at myself most of all, my silly mistakes and blunders. It takes little to make me smile and be happy. But one thing that I don’t enjoy is the discomfort of others. That’s why the funny videos of people falling or getting hurt doing crazy things is not going to make me laugh.

What’s the world coming to?  (Credit to Mel of Crushed Caramel…)

We started civilization in caves. Maybe we are going back to that. Trying to destroy each other, hate on basis of someone being different are are signs of primitive thinking.

In one sentence sum up the Internet.

Don’t take what you read on the internet as the gospel truth.

If over time you replace parts on a car, at what point does it stop being the same car you bought? How many parts do you need to replace to make it a new car?

A new body and engine. If the seatbelts are from the previous car, it’s okay.

Gratitude is an attitude.   Yea or nay?   Explain your viewpoint please!

I liked how Fandango differentiated between gratitude and attitude. I agree. We can have an attitude of gratitude and it is a blessing to have it. But plain attitude is just a pain, if you’re getting my drift. There is a need to teach people to be grateful and mindful of all the blessings of life. It will also change our attitude and make us happier and more contented.

 She says;

Okay then.   Now fair WARNING.   This week’s Share Your World is rather grim.  More hatred and divisiveness in America, resulting in a lot of innocent people dying at the hands of unbalanced men.   With guns.    So if you’d rather not participate this week, no worries.   Next week should see a return to a more upbeat theme.   All the questions this week are philosophical in nature.

I will post four or five different questions each week for you to answer.  There are two ways which you can participate.

  5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.

QUESTIONS:

Does life have a reason (meaning)?

Indeed it does. Otherwise everything is futile. All of us have a purpose and a role to play in our lifetime. It could be something big, like an invention or being a leader or it could be something that is not that prominent but important nonetheless. We may have a pivotal role in a sequence of events which in itself is of great value. And most importantly, I think we have to validate our existence by our actions. Prove worthy of being given life and all the blessings which come with it.

Will the world come to an end by human hands (man’s actions)?

It may look like this right now but we are too small to bring about the end of the world. We may be the cause of the end of civilized society, the way we are propagating hatred and violence. Putting up walls and discriminating against each other.

Will stricter laws make a better world?  Would less strict law make it better?

Stricter gun laws, enforcement of laws and rules and maintaining a unbiased form of judgment for everyone may really improve the way we live now.

If death is inevitable, why bother doing anything?

Death comes to us all, and nobody lives for ever. But should we just let go and not make an effort to live good lives? Than that life would be worse than death. We need to believe in making an effort to be good, to be kind and to be better than what we are. This is the purpose of living and when we die, we will have the satisfaction of living a good life.

Are thoughts and prayers useful or a sop for people who wish to pay respect but interact through a virtual venue?   Yea or nay – please explain your viewpoint (without rancor) if you would.

For people who are suffering, kind words and thoughts are like a balm on a wound. If we are in a position to do something practically and still we just verbalize our feelings than that is not right. However if we have no way of actually helping those people physically or practically, our thoughts, words and prayers tell them that we are thinking about them and are sharing in their sorrows.

(the last two are courtesy of Teresa of The Haunted Wordsmith
Is it wrong to sell store-bought pastries at a bake sale?

Not at all, unless you are telling people that you have made them. Some people even go as far as giving others a recipe for them.

Have you ever interacted with the police?

Yes, we did when there was an attempted break-in in our home. Long time back. Quite a experience. But they were very helpful.

What will you remember most about this past year (this question will show up again, in late December, just FYI)

That our family had two new grand babies to celebrate. There are other things too, but this stands out more than others.

Is it better to have fungus on your toes, your tongue, or your pizza?

Fungus, the bad kind should be avoided at all costs on any part of the body. A fungus infused pizza is fine as it can be composted.

What is one slang word that makes your skin crawl?

When people say ” Whatever ” it really makes me crazy. Mostly teenagers when you’re trying to talk to them.

Aren’t You Glad?

I am glad and thankful for each and every un-eventful day. Normal day without anything out of the ordinary is a blessing and should be celebrated.

QUESTIONS.

Uplifting-Quotes-for-People-in-Recovery

This week I’m doing something a bit different.   All (but one) of the questions were someone else’s idea first.    I’ve credited these wonderful bloggers and hope you enjoy them.   If you haven’t visit the bloggers, you might find one or two (or all) to follow, if you don’t already!

What happens if you-stare at the mirror for too long in the dark?   (credit to Ursula of An Upturned Soul.  If you haven’t read Ursula’s blog, go over and just wade in and enjoy.   To me she’s fascinating and what she writes about is always worth the journey).

I won’t be able to see anything in the dark but in a dim light I may see myself and then the sight will scare me to death. I am at an age where only very flattering light can make me able to stare at myself.

Do you think you’re judgmental?  What tends to bring it out in you?  (Credit to Ashleyleia for this one)

To be honest, I am. And I think we all are to some degree. The habit is bad and should be corrected. I am trying to keep an open mind always and give the benefit of doubt as well. Hope I can cure myself of this habit.

Do you work better with actual lists or with mental lists?  (Credit to Sadje of Keep it Alive)

I have a list when I am grocery shopping or traveling. And I make it on my phone so that I didn’t leave it at home. Other than that I am not a “list” person.

Would you go streaking across a football field during a game for a million dollars (insert your own country’s currency), knowing there’s a 50/50 chance you’ll get arrested for indecent exposure? (this one is mine.  Yeah, my mind wanders to some highly strange places sometimes).

Nopes! Never even if the reward amount was ten times.

Lastly:

Gratitude/Thankful/Enriching

What has happened in your life that made you feel uplifted and happy, if only temporarily?

I am grateful for having good health, enough money in my bag and for my family. All great things.

Please visit Melanie’s blog if you want to answer her questions.

5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.

QUESTIONS:

Why do we seem to respect the dead more than the living?

I think we really don’t respect them anymore than the living but people pretend to do so. There is another factor that you might have heard people say ” Don’t speak ill of the dead” I think this factors in our conversations about the dead people. The logic I think is that the dead people are not there to defend themselves. But respect is another thing altogether. A person who deserves the respect while alive definitely deserves to be respected after death, while someone whom we didn’t respect when they were alive, are not deserving of it after they die!

Why is beauty associated with morality?  Or not?   (a few weeks back I asked a similar question, but the key word was MORTALITY, not MORALITY).

Is the question, indirectly is ” are beautiful people immoral ?”

I guess if you assess, on the average, than perhaps people gifted with beautiful faces are more prone to be lacking in values as some of them develop a narcissistic attitude. But obviously it cannot include all the people who posses external beauty. While those who possess internal beauty are always moral.

Have gadgets and apps taken away emotions?

That is true on this premise that due o the presence of new gadgets, people have stopped interacting on a personal level. A happy birthday text really doesn’t carry the same impact as a hug, or even a hand written birthday card. The emotions are buried under deep layers of this so called “busy life we all are living, where we even don’t have time to call each other once in a while and ask “how are you?”

Is there a perfect life?  What’s your version of a perfect life if you care to share?

There can be no perfect life, at least not this time around. But there can be a perfect state of mind, which perceives the life as perfect. We each have things we lack, crave and desire. Then there are the hardships we all face at one point or the other in life. Even the kings and queens and the extremely wealthy have their share of unhappiness and trials. So the only way to have a perfect life is to accept whatever cards we are dealt with and try to make the best of them.

Gratitude;

If you’d like, please share something uplifting or for which you are grateful.

I had a wonderful trip with my daughter and grandson this week. In fact we just came back and here I am blogging. Need to share with my blogging family too.

QUESTIONS:

Now I realize that everyone doing SYW doesn’t live on this side of the world and on the other side of the world it’s now winter.   So substitute, if you’d like and if it’s more appropriate, “winter” for summer and answer the questions that way.   🙂

• Are you a Summer person?   A Winter person?   Or one of the other seasons suits you best?

I like the in between seasons. When summer is ending and fall is just starting or when winter is changing into spring. I like the anticipation of the new season and re-discovering my winter/ summer wardrobe.

• What is your favorite summer time clothing?

Light cotton shirts, with cotton pants. Though I wear jeans often too.

• Do you find yourself eating out more during the summer?  Or making ‘cold food’ like salads and stuff you can heat in the microwave?

We all get our own breakfast. Lunch is usually a “on the go thing”. For dinner I cook something every day, except weekends. It’s usually an easy and quick recipe. Grilling, stir frying and sauté in the way to go! On the weekends we go out or order in.

• Do you like watermelon?   What’s your favorite summertime treat?

I like watermelon, but I prefer to eat it in a fruit salad. Mixed with something less sweet and maybe a few crackers added at the end. I have trouble with my teeth due to sensitivity so I stay away from very cold desserts. I like a nice molten lave cake with a cup of coffee!

Are you thankful it’s finally (sorta) dry and warm?

I like when it rains, but not all the time as it does in Seattle. Too hot or dry is not my cup of tea!

Dang!  July is here already.   It’s about 68 degrees today too, which is on the chilly side.  I’ve never experienced a cold/cool July before, but it’s rather pleasant.   On to Share Your World!  In the United States of America a bigholiday is coming up on the 4th.  Our nation’s Independence Day.   That’s why the different banner this week!

  5. There are sometimes two sets of questions…one with images and one without (same questions).  This is for ease of copy and pasting.

QUESTIONS:

Would (or do) you stop to help (presumably) stranded folks by the side of the road?

I used to offer help if it was a woman or a girl. But my family has drummed into me that this is not wise. Now I offer to help if there is someone with me in the car. Safety measure!

Do you think the world is less mannerly today than in past times OR are we just more touchy and manners are as they’ve always been?

A bit of both. We notice things mor, a concept of politically correct has crept in. Something we used to do have been deemed not ” correct” behavior. And the young crowd have mostly left the concept of ” good manners ” in the past. It always comes as a pleasant surprise when they would step aside so that you can pass or open a door for you. Thank yous and please are not altogether absolute but getting rare!

What happens if you’re scared half to death, TWICE?

Probably I will be three quarters dead. Not completely because that would be plain. Murder!

If ALL the world’s a stage, where does the audience sit?

Well we all are up there on the stage performing our parts. It is a real neat trick if one can extract oneself from this stage and step in the spectators gallery and look at life from outside. It really liberates you.

(There is a further question…the gratitude question, below the graphic.  Sorry folks!)

Share Your World 6-23-19

New weekly sharing post from Melanie of Sparks from a Combustible Mind ;

QUESTIONS:

Are you more a thinker or a doer?    (credit to Cyranny of Cyranny’s Cove for this one)

I am a doer. The truth is that I am ( unfortunately) such an impulsive person that I sometimes think after doing things. And then I have plenty of time to regret my actions. But the upside is that I get lot of things done in my hurry.

Why is beauty associated with mortality?

If we associate beauty with the concept of things diminishing with time just like health diminishes with age, there is a great parallel here. And a lesson too. People sometimes don’t see the logical order of how things happen in life. All things that go up, have to come down. And everyone who lives , ages and ultimately dies. Same is with beauty which looses its charm with age. The only thing which survives the ravages of time is the beauty of actions, words and deeds. That transcends time.

If everyone spoke their mind (told the literal truth), would this world be a better place?

Probably it would be but with a fewer people living. Most would have become the victims of the violence resulting after hearing the opinions of others.

Can religious beliefs affect scientific thinking?

Religion is a set of beliefs. Science is based on facts. The two run parallel to each other. But having said that, we are still learning and exploring. There may come a time when all the teachings of a religion can be proved by facts as well.

QUESTIONS:

If you were suddenly injured or died, are your bedside table drawers ready for someone else to go through them?   If you care to share, what’s the most unusual item someone might find, that might be potentially embarrassing?

Though I do try to routinely clean my bedside table of the junk that accumulates there, they are usually full of things that I think I might need suddenly during the night. It has a lot of meds for pain, like Advil and creams for pain because I have painful cramps during the night so they help. A number of charging cables, in use and broken ones for both of my phones and books. And obviously my kindle, my iPad, and the two phones mentioned. It is a miracle that all these things are in and on that table. So if I die un-expectedly there will be an embarrassing mess to sort out. And after this question, I will make sure to neaten it up.

What keeps you going?  (However you might interpret that is correct.)

My optimism. Plain and simple. Things go bad for us all at one time or the other, but my thinking that something will happen to make things better always keeps me going!
