Sunday Writing Prompt; Faith restored

With all the negativity in the world at the moment I thought we could all take a moment to recognize the heroes in our lives, people who have restored our faith in humanity when all hope seemed lost.

You need not know the person personally just so long as they had an impact on your life or the life of someone near and dear to you.

Hope!

There is still hope for the humanity. We are usually looking at the negative aspects of live and taking the positives as our due. We should sit up and look around us to see how much kindness people show to each other.

The overwhelming picture presented to us by the media all over the world shows war, misery and aggression. What is mostly ignored are the little acts of kindness and love shown by ordinary people towards each other. Why? Because they don’t creat sensationalism. They don’t increase the ratings of the new networks. But we have our senses intact. We should observe these lovely gestures and that lifts our spirits. Gives us hope that not everything is doomed. Not everyone is bad.

We usually donate our unused and gently used clothes , toys and other household stuff at Goodwill and when I go there it gives me such a warm feeling to see a constant stream of people who are bringing in stuff for donations. The people in charge at these collection points are mostly volunteers and are so helpful and polite.

Hope is very much alive. And so is kindness and love. Just overshadowed by the publicity hungry media.

Keep on hoping!

Time to write #44 Sentence Starter

A prompt by Rachel Poli

Sentence Starter # 44

Write a story beginning with the dialogue above.

If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your post in the comments below and I’ll share it next week. Please be sure to link back to my blog so your readers know where you got the prompt!

A new beginning

“Welcome to the family and to your new home” She stared uncomprehending at these words. The language was not known to her but she could see the welcoming smiles and understand the kindness in the eyes of these people. It was the start. And now looking back almost eighteen years, she still felt immense gratitude towards the family who had brought her here to live with them, all the way from her war torn country. They gave her a home when her own was blown away by the conflict of war. They became her family when the rebels had killed all of her own and they gave her the life which even in her wildest dreams she could not have imagined. And it all started with one sentence: Welcome to the family.

Weekend Writing Prompt # 95; Devotion

The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose.  You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you.  The only rules are these:

• your poem / prose must contain this week’s word.  The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.

• the length of your poem / prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge.  No more.  No less.

How do I show my

devotion

That is my motivation

Its there in all my actions

The love of my fellow creations

Now, today and tomorrow

Tale Weaver #212; Fairytale February 28

Image: Google images

This week write a Fairy Tale using the following title.

The Fairy With the Broken Wing

Go where your ideas take you.

Please limit your responses to 500 – 600 words and link them using the linking tool below.

In disgrace

In the wonderland, fairies were celebrating the festival of roses. Kathie was so excited because it was her first season, being the youngest. After this they were going to be assigned their tasks. The older fairies often tried to control her exuberance but she was young and if truth be told, a little foolish. Not is a bad way but far too impulsive for her own good.

Today was a beautiful warm spring day. The garden was full of the scent of roses in full bloom. She was gathering the best of them in a bouquet to present to their queen. As she was preparing to go inside after completing her task, she heard a little cry from one of the rose bushes. She bent down to see who or what was making that pitiful sound. And under the bush she saw the most cutest little puppy, uttering little yelp and cowering in fright. She tried to lure it in the open but the puppy was really in a bad state and wouldn’t budge. She went down on her hands and crawled under the bush. After a bit of petting and soothing the puppy came to her and very gently she took hold of it and crawled backwards from under the bush. But she forgot one important detail. Her wings! One of the wing got caught in the thorny branches of the bush and with an audible snap it broke off. Now it was Kathie who uttered a loud cry and started to cry loudly because of the immense pain in her broken wing.

Other fairies hearing her cry came at once to her. They soothed her and asked the queen fairy to help Kathie. The queen was also a great healer and she soon had helped calm Kathie and her wing was splintered and bandaged in no time. The older fairies expected Kathie to be held in disgrace as breaking of a wing was considered a serious slip-up and was punishable offense. But since the puppy belonged to the fairy queen, instead of being punished, she praised Kathie for her kindness and gave her the best duty any fairy could be assigned to; to be a play mate to the queen and her puppy!

Tale Weaver # 211 ; Making Sense of The Nonsense-Egrlactical 21Feburary

This week a nonsense word to play with.

You can use it as a noun or verb or adjective, go where your imagination takes you.

Please limit your responses to 500 – 600 words and link your work using the linking tool below.

My favorite people are the egrlacticals.

There are many types of people in the world. The analysts are the one who questioned and analyze the facts to get to the conclusion. Then there were the egrlactical who believe everything and anything anyone told them. There are many advantages of being an egrlactical. They have a very peaceful mind as there are no conflicts in their brain. Taking everything at face value makes them very pleasant company and they are the first ones to agree with you during any debate. People invite them to their homes because they will swallow all the far-fetched tales you can relate to them. I personally like that they are the most pleasant guests you can have. Another advantage of being an egrlactical is that you will never get in a fight or argument with them because of a divergent view or faith.

Where these people are highly popular, some people can and do take exception to the yea sayers. It sets off their non-conformist alarm. They do like someone to disagree with them and the egrlactical disappoints them in this scenario. Some people like to make fun of the very trusting nature of an egrlactical person, getting them to agree first to one point of view and then presenting them with a completely opposite opinion where the egrlactical will agree with it too.

Make friends with an egrlactical and you will have a lovely time with them!

Your line for this week is:

The falcon launched into the air to swiftly become a sharp speck against the sky. From that great height its laser sharp eyes detected the traps laid for its capture by the men. They were ruthless and greedy. But she was not going to be captured by those traps. She was a majestic bird with a visual accuracy almost three times that of a human eye and flight speed of two hundred kilometers per hour and diving speed close to three hundred kilometers per hour. She was not an easy target to be captured.

And today, she had a different mission. It flew high towards the rocky mountains and found its nest, where the fledglings were waiting to be fed. The falcon fed the four fledglings and waited for its partner to arrive.

After his arrival, she took off in a graceful flight, soaring above the mountains and scanning the valley for what she was looking for. As soon as her target came into view, she went into a swift dive and was near the ground in matter of few seconds. It was a barn where she was headed. Inside the men were talking together. Today they had trapped another falcon for illegal trade. She gave a loud screech and attacked the head honcho, aiming for his eyes. There was panic among them at this unexpected attack. The bag which was holding the falcon slipped from the hand of the man who was in charge of it and that falcon, who was a female too escaped. Both the birds flew out of the barn to safety. The plan was foiled for today and a bird escaped captivity.

Sunday Writing Prompt Challenge #44.

The quote “These mountains you are carrying, you were only supposed to climb.” Najwa Zebian

What is the underlying theme? What’s the story here? The overarching emotions? If you like you can read them like panels in a comic strip it’s up to you how your interpret them. Literal or abstract are both perfectly acceptable.

It is time

There is a hidden desire in her heart that wants to see the light of the day. She has gone through her life, hiding all that is important to her for she thinks that no one is willing to see her point of view. Or that she is even allowed to have a point of view. She is a woman after all, living in a society where women are only expected to do what they are told, when they are told and have to be subservient to the men in her family.

But something has changed inside of her now. Like a chrysalis, she is ready to emerge from her cocoon and spread her wings. She wants to break the shackles and reach for the rainbow. Maybe this new courage has awaken in her because of broadening of her mind by the books she has read. Now she is ready to lay down the burden of expectations and reach the zenith of her ambitions.

It is time.

My Imagination

Do you know where it will take me, my imagination

All the ordinary is left behind in the flight of my fancy

I can be whatever I want and go wherever I desire to

All the realms are open to me, when I see with my mind

And not the sight in front of me but that is playing behind

How I love these adventures of the myself in the magic world

I fly, I soar into the space and touch the stars and galaxies

Do you see where I have been in my imagination’s journey
