Friday Flashback – Chasing happiness

I am sharing this post from September 2018 as a part of Fandango Friday Flashback.

(It’s one of my early posts. I think you will see a difference in the style of writing. I made no changes!)

Who doesn’t want to be happy? We all do! But what exactly is happiness? Happiness is described as a state of being happy!!! And then again, what is being happy? Happy is equivalent to a state of joy or pleasure

.happy

So now that we know what is the emotion that is happiness, how to achieve it? And why do we have to attain this state of mind?

The usual expectation people have about a good life is, that it is a happy life. I agree with you and so would about 99% of people in this world. But what makes a person happy is a big variable. If riches are one person’s idea of a happy life, a good home/ marriage would be another ‘s. A great and fulfilling job can be the ideal happy life for someone else. And so on and so forth.

We usually base our expectations of being happy on certain conditions and circumstances in life. Nobody would expect to be happy just because he/ she felt like it. Except for a CHILD!!! And here lies the difference which is between adults and children. We are gradually programmed to co-relate the happiness with other things in life, like success, money, a good home, or a congenial environment. This conditioning changes our perception of joy and pleasure. A child can be happy for no reason other than he/ she is feeling buoyant. Children have not yet learned that they need certain conditions to make them happy. I guess what I really want to say that the pure unadulterated feeling of joy or happiness need not be an elusive phantom to be chased all our lives. Joy can be found in everything around us, we just need to perceive it. A beautiful vista, a bird’s song, the laughter of a child, or a loved one can bring us untold joy, only if we open our hearts and minds to it.

The onus of being happy should lie on our own shoulders. ( Or in our own perceptions). Don’t give others this job. Decide to be a person who can look for joy and pleasure in little things in life. Don’t wait for earth-shattering events to experience the highs of pleasure. Find your happiness in the little day-to-day event. For example:

1. Getting up at time in the morning

2. Finishing your daily chore on time

3. Having a good meal

4. Listening to your favorite song

5. Reading an inspiring book

6. Seeing a good movie

7. And my favorite, have a good talk with your bestie!

h3

These are a few of the things, ( I am sure, once you start thinking on these lines, you can find many more) and situations where joy and happiness are just waiting for you to find it!

Another thing much ignored in today’s life is the feeling of contentment! It is much more valuable than transitory happiness. Contentment or peace can bring never-ending happiness as it means that we are satisfied with our lives. We are now at that place in life where little disappointments have no power to disturb us. We have done a good job and are proud of it!

Wishing happiness and joy to you all.

Just Seven Things

Rory is asking;

A Guy Called Bloke Banner 24 Hour Blog Question JPEG (1)

24 Hour Blog Question Directory

Can you list ‘just seven things’ that make you happy – whatever your definition of happy is – can you list just seven things that bring joy into your life or energy or even a sustainable synergy that when combined award you – your variation of happiness?

Why do they make you feel happy?

Once you have done that, list just seven things that make you unhappy.

Then when you have done that – explain this …. ‘How do YOU define happiness?’

Seven happy things;

1. Being at peace with my loved ones.

2. My loved ones in a good place, health, and emotion wise.

3. Being able to pay my bills and able to indulge in a treat if I do feel.

4. Helping others to find a solution to their problems, lend a helping hand emotionally or financially.

5. Losing weight!

6. Getting all my health stats in the acceptable range.

7. Going for a walk.

Seven unhappy things;

1. Being at odds with my family or friends.

2. Feeling unwell, emotionally, or physically.

3. Being worried about those I care about, and that includes my blogging friends.

4. Unable to help people I care about, through their problems.

5. Being short of money.

6. Unable to spend my day according to my daily routine.

7. Putting on weight, unable to lose weight, or messing up my health stats, like blood sugar levels.

What is happiness to me;

For me, happiness means being at peace with myself, my family, and friends.

To be in good health, and in a good frame of mind.

And finally to be able to do some good in my life.

Flashback Friday- A Birthday Wish

I am sharing this post from last year, 23rd November 2018.

As a part of Fandango Friday Flashback.

If you could get any presents for your birthday, what would it be?

I was asked the question recently. It’s my birthday tomorrow. So my husband asked me what would I like as a present. And that made me think! An interesting thought. What if we were asked what we wanted every year on our birthday and be granted whatever we asked!

What would be one thing that I would really desire for my gift? A long healthy life? Unlimited wealth? Or bushels load of happiness?

What is the most important thing that I would want? Or that you would choose?

We all have our priorities in life but there are somethings that we all desire.

Health;

Good health is usually is number one on everyone’s list. Especially if we or a loved one had a run-in with sickness or ill health. We all usually desire to live a healthy and long life. We wish the same for our loved ones. To be self-reliant and enjoy the benefits of good health to the end of our days is one thing above all others that most of us want.

Happiness;

Happiness may not be the second most desired wish for everyone but most of us would pick this as our second most coveted treasure. Being happy and peaceful makes life beautiful and worth living. We have to create our own happiness. It can’t come from outside. But we all wish to be happy, we wish joy to others and more benevolent people wish all the world around them to be happy.

Wealth;

Now, who wouldn’t want heaps of moolah! Loads of money would be welcomed by 99.99% of people. And the rest, the 0.01% won’t sneeze it either! But seriously, even if we all don’t desire to be fabulously wealthy, most of us are desirous of being comfortably well off. To make our end meet or to put it simply, not to be bothered about money matters.

These are the most important and top of the list things that most people will desire. But no one can grant us Health or Happiness, though there are some people who could grant us our wish for Wealth by willing it to us or maybe giving it as a gift. But that is an extremely rare thing to happen.

So now we come to what we can give to each other and receive as gifts?

My question to you all. What would you like for your birthday?

Writing Prompt #30

I am happiest when…….

We all have our “happy -meters

It’s that state of our minds which when reached, indicates the optimal level of happiness.

Some find it in fun, some at work and some in hobbies. I do love food but I cannot say that I am happiest when eating my favorite food only. I need much more.

My happiness needs more factors to be present to be complete.

I am happiest when I am mentally at peace. When there are no problems hanging over my head to be solved. No family member is unhappy about another family member or has other issues which need to be resolved. When there are no pending chores to be taken care of. When there is no rush to get somewhere in a hurry. And when I am satiated on my favorite food.

That is when I am at my most relaxed and happiest frame of mind. I would relax with a good book and put on my favorite music and while away the time!

I think that this not a lot to ask for! 😜

What is the time that you are happiest?

Writing Prompt #30

Trial.

Life is a trial. We need to prove that we are worthy of being called humans. That , the thinking and reasoning beings that we are, we don’t give in to our baser ( animal) instinct. The trial is very apparent sometimes and pretty elusive at others. People who are suffering in life are said to be facing a hard trial of life , while people wallowing in comfort of an easy life , seem to be free from any hardship.

The truth of the matter is that in both cases, we are being tested. If we are facing a difficult time, we need to stay positive and optimistic. While if life is easy, the test is to be helpful to others, to make life a little more pleasant for the less fortunate.
