Dream vacation

Going abroad and visiting foreign countries is always exciting. Some people do it for a living. Others for adventure. I am always excited to travel and look forward to seeing new places and eating the local cuisine there. But this narrative is not about a trip we took to a foreign country. It is about a vacation that I want to take with my husband. It is still in planning stage but I felt that with so many prompts, pointing towards this direction, I should write about this dream vacation. We have been planning to visit England some day, with visits to Scotland and Ireland thrown into it. It is an ambitious plan and would be quite expansive but there a lot of places we want to visit in Great Britain. We want to explore London first of all. My husband has been there when he was just a kid, but I have just passed through London in transit. Then there are a few cousins living there who are always inviting us so we plan to visit them as well. Going to Scotland is on the list because of its amazing natural beauty and the historical places.

Esoteric information

I can understand your quizzical expression

This is an esoteric discussion for a privilege few

Not everyone’s cup of tea, intended for a select group

The discussion of the patterns of inherited genes

Can give a spin to any one’s imagination

But sometimes these technical details are hard to understand

So if this information is too much of an overload

You are invited to step outside into the fresh air

And enjoy the scenic gardens instead of stuffy lounge

Enter the real world and leave the discussion of the virtual one behind

Job hunting

“How is the job hunting going Alex?”

She shrugged her shoulders in a nonchalant manner and didn’t say anything in reply.

“You are so well educated, a graduate of a top ranked university. How come you cannot find a job which suits your qualifications?”

Alex stared at her father in a resentful manner. She was not a little girl anymore and didn’t like to be taken to task for the way she lived her life, even though she still lived at home with her parents.

” Dad you know I have emailed my CV to so many of my acquaintances and I am waiting to hear back from them”

” Well I think it’s an anomaly, you not getting a job. All your friends have managed to get good ones” Dad was in a jesting mood.

At that moment, her mom walked in and Alex turned to her for some support.

“Mom you know I am right in not accepting just any job. I was at the top of my class. I can only take a position that is in accordance with my qualifications”

Mom gave a cynical smile and said ” Well honey, you should wait till Bill Gates steps down and then you can take up his job”

Alex stomped her feet in frustration and walked out.

The wanderer

The door opened with a welcoming smile

The vagabond was surprised and suspicious

Why would anyone show mercy and kindness

To a hobo, wandering about without destination

He had no fame to his name neither any riches

The only quality he had was the fortitude he showed

Bearing all his misfortunes and miseries with courage

He was thus not sure why he was being treated so kindly

The man, his host, stepped forward with an outstretched hand

Gave him a warm embrace and offered him food and a place to rest

To answer his enquiring glance, he said, ” Brother I was once like you”

A wanderer without a home and was given shelter by a kind soul

It is now my turn to repay this debt, my home is yours for as long as you want

Just be sure not to abuse the kindness and if it’s in your power to pay it forward

Kindness and love when shared bring about riches which are beyond material

So be kind even if it is just a little bit!

Curious George

The word curious reminds me of Curious George

It opens a vault of memories most enjoyable

We, that is I and my grandson would see this program

On the Television every Saturday, laughing and smiling

In his innocence and curiosity, the lovable monkey

Would teach us a lot of life lessons and it’s ironies

He would make a spectacular splash and create chaos

Then in his desire to put everything alright again

More adorable and funny adventures would ensue

Sadly my grandson has out grown his fascination with him

But I still enjoy this program when ever I get a chance

My state of mind

This is my world that I have chosen

Serene environment is it’s hallmark

I am it’s keeper, I am it’s maintainer

I call in all the courage that I possess

To keep my world intact and free from invasion

My world, my fortress is my state of mind

That I strive to keep free from all the negativity

No one is allowed to bring the germs of hopelessness

Into this idyllic world, my state of mind.

A boisterous picnic

With a high roar of cheerful hurrah

The rambunctious kids scattered

The verdant grassy slopes were

Beckoning them to come over and enjoy

Meanwhile the adults accompanying them

Felt lucky to be left alone in solitude

As the children went ahead to enjoy

Their visit to the hills and the parkland

My Mother

My mom would have been the perfect paradigm of my ideal

Had she lived long enough for me to know her as an adult

Her life finished when she was just twenty six years old

I never got the chance to develop memories of her as a person

Life for her was short and her journey ended where for other, it begins

Her thoughts slide into my mind often and needless to say that

I miss the motherly touch, the words of wisdom that she might have

Imparted to me, had she been alive when I became old enough to value

The love and devotion only a mother can give to her child each and every day

Today and every day, I salute the mothers, who with selfless love give their children

All the confidence they need to face this world and to stand strong on their own

Advice

You came to me in the guise of an old woman

Giving me sage advice about all things important

Life, you say is like a spread of delicacies, and you a gourmand

Choose your dish wisely, don’t get greedy and over stuff yourself

Always remember that the choices we make have long memories

So if they come back to haunt you at the dusk of your life, be ready

Make honesty and truth the base of your life’s dealings so you’re

Never ashamed of the things you did and the words you spoke

There will be cloudy days along with sunny ones, rainbows with storms

Smile at your troubles and stay strong in adversity

You, my mother came to me in guise of an old woman

Ambiguous words

Ambiguous words carry no bite

Say what you want clear and concise

The meaning should be apparent to all

The ifs, buts and maybes can put a question mark

On the meaning of the whole conversation

Raise a few eyebrows if it could mean something not intended

Don’t put your words in the crosshairs of controversy

Avoid the double entendres and dubiousness if you can

State the obvious with a clarity and use your words wisely
