Present

There was a present on the table

All wrapped up fancy and intriguing

She tentatively touched it wondering

Is this for me, or am I mistaken in it

I assured her that it indeed was hers

Came this morning by urgent postal delivery

Can you guess what it is, I asked with a wink

Smiling she replied of course it’s a book

I wonder if it’s a book about castles and dungeons

Or about witches and wizards said she thinking aloud

Thank you for this present says she, clutching the book

I love reading about everything and anything

This is the best gift I can get as opens a window

In the mind and lets my imagination roam free

It grants me the satisfaction of quenching the

Roaring desire of knowledge that haunts my mind

Royal treatment

What are the symptoms you are asking

You do no exercise and rest all day long

The health is deteriorating and what is the cure

Get up and move around, don’t give royal treatment

To this body of yours, if you want to live a happy life

Good health is not easy, it needs hard work and sweat

Radar

She appeared on his radar, enticing

With her come hither looks and sashaying

He abandoned all pretense of disinterest

And followed her around with adoration

Not a bit of hate could be found in his nature

He didn’t mind that she was incoherent in her talk

Her love was all he needed to be her slave for life

Reputation

It lay in tatters, besmirched and tarnished

A few words thrown carelessly, without thought

Was all it took to blot what was spotless before

The words are now traveling with the winds

Scattered like pollen dust, everywhere

That is all it takes nowadays, to spoil and blacken

The character and reputation of a person

It doesn’t matter if they are guilty or not

Just spread the rumors and you have done the harm

Now even if you beautify, and adorn the same

Put flowers, ribbons and tassels to make it look pretty

The harm that has been done, can seldom be undone

People are good at remembering the faults and flaws

It would take another lifetime to build it again.

The stage

There was a degree of fidelity regarding how the actual was copied

It resembled, what the original would have looked like if it existed

All the teachers and the students involved were working tirelessly

To complete the stage set before the play’s scheduled date

The had a makeshift ship on one side with oars and sails

The pirate costumes were all ready with crossbones and skulls

As the curtains opened, the bold Captain jumped from high deck

Said with a loud laugh , “Ahoy, me mates!

Emotional Armor

Sometimes you have to wear the armor of indifference

To avoid being hurt by displaying the fact that you care

There is a division between those who care and others

Who think it a pleasure to poke fun at the sensitive people

Those who are happy and joyous at achievements of their friends

And are unhappy and sad at the failure for those they love

Empathy has to be shielded from the heartless

Not to bail out on the genuine emotions, but kept hidden

Not to utter empty words of platitudes, but real heartfelt concern

The book launch

There was a long queue outside the bookstore. Most people had been standing there for a long time, their aim to buy the latest book launched by the most illustrious and best selling author of the day. She was so popular that many had pre-ordered her book since weeks. Jane with her daughter, Emily were in the line too. They had come here quite early and were near the bookstore doors, which were going to open at 9’o’ clock exactly. Both were ardent fans of these books. That was the beauty of her writing that both the adults and kids were fond of her books. When the store opened, they got in and picked up their book, heading to the checkout counter. In front of them, they saw a teenager carrying five or six of that very same book. “Mom, why he has so many copies of the book?” Emily asked. “Is he hoarding these books?” The boy in front heard her remark, and turned bright red with embarrassment. He turned around and told her” I have got them as gifts for my friends who were not able to come today to the store. I know that by tomorrow this book will be out of stock” Now it was Emily’s turn to be embarrassed. She mumbled an apology and nudged her mom to move forward, as it was there turn to pay.

Hope

Like a day old paper, rumpled and crumpled

Don’t let the abandoned hope leave your soul forlorn

Always beware of the imp of negativity

Which seeks to surround your soul in the dark

Look up, look up

Looking up always lifts the spirits and fills

Our hearts with hope, joy and jubilation

Put us back into harmony with the universe

Sailing

Do you remember?

Tiny paper boats put to sail in the small puddles of waster after the rain. Made with pieces of paper, pages torn out of note books. Colorful or drab. Made into boats by following the origami patterns. It’s a child’s play, sailing them in the puddles and ponds. No power is needed. The lake that is frozen over needs to thaw before we can attempted put our armada of ships to sail on its surface. And then to do justice to this sport, we need at least two players competing with each other to see whose boats sail the farthest.

Knight interrupted

So absorber I was in watching the drama unfold

The knight had taken a pledge to protect the town

He was under the command of the king to delate

The cheating and swindling bunch of hoodlums

To the town sheriff and clean up the mess made

And suddenly the wi-fi stopped working and

Here I was looking at a blank screen of the TV

Cursing the internet provider for this interruption
