Melanie‘s Five Questions (Four + One Weird/Funny One)

  • Are you of the naughty or nice variety? …

I am naughty in a very nice way. I like being funny and like people to smile. If that means being a bit naughty, then I am. But I am careful never to be rude, crude or cruel!

  • What is the most hilarious childhood memory you can think of? …

Hilarious, in a theatrical way which only kids can be;

I was about twelve and my younger brother was two and was being cranky. I was trying to amuse him and took him near a window in the upstairs bedroom where we had a view of our next door house. When I pushed the glass pane to open the jammed window, my hand went straight through the glass, shattering it. My infant brother was very amused and thought it was for his benefit that I pulled this stunt. I was more concerned with the broken glass and noticed a while later that my hand and wrist had scratches which were oozing blood.

But at the moment, it was very funny.

  • Sexiest animal on the planet? …

A majestic cat, like a panther or a lion. It’s sleek and powerful, fitting the description of sexy!

  • What Is One Thing You Refuse To Share?

My personal space! I don’t like to share it with others. It’s not a physical space, it’s my comfort zone. I feel that I have earned the right to have a zone where I am myself, free from criticism and judgment.

  • If you could read minds, how would you use the gift? …

I would be afraid too. Though at times one thinks that we would like to know what the other person is thinking, in reality, we really would not want to know their private thoughts. God knows what they would be thinking!!!!

I am ignoring the rest of the rules. If any of my readers fancy, they can answer Melanie‘s very interesting questions.

Thank you, Melanie, once again for the shout out.

Blogger Recognition Award 18th December

Di of pensitivity101 has very kindly nominated for this award. Di is a brilliant blogger and writes prolifically and on a lot of topics. If you’re not already her reader, I suggest that you head over to her blog and check it out.

Willow of Willowdot21 has also nominated me for this award. Do check out her lovely blog.

1. Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.

2. Write a post to show your award.

3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.

4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.

5. Select up to fifteen bloggers you want to give this award to.

6. Comment (or pingback) on each blog to let them know that you’ve nominated them and provide a link to the post you’ve created.

How I started my blogging journey;

As I have shared this story before, I’ll keep it short. A good friend of mine Dr. Tanya started her blog and invited me to check out her posts. She is a great writer and her posts were always good fun. Lots of good advice and information. To visit her blog, I made an account on WordPress. And that’s how I was introduced to the blogging world. One day I started to write my own blog post and have never looked back.

My advice to new bloggers;

Don’t stress out while blogging. Even if you’re writing a Professional blog, don’t let it become a burden. Enjoy your blogging. I find it a great source of mental relaxation!

Make friends in the blogging world. Whatever is your reason for starting a blog, friends always help. It took me 6-8 months to get to know the bloggers I follow really well. I am happy to say that I have found lots of good friends here in the blogging community. And this is the biggest achievement that I am proud of.

My Nominations;

Dr Tanya

Reena Saxena

Congratulations to you all.

Sunshine Blogger Award # 15

Thank you so much, Beckie, of Beckie’s Mental Mess who has bestowed Sunshine Blogger Award on my blog. If you are not following Beckie’s blog, please check it out. It is a fantastic blog, with special emphasis on mental well being.

About Sunshine Blogger Award:
It is given to those who are creative, positive and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.

Rules are simple:
a. Nominate 11 people and notify them via comment.
b. Ask them new 11 questions.
c. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
d. Display the award logo on your blog post.
e. Answer the 11 questions asked

Beckie‘s 11 Questions:

1. Do you search for difficult words in your writing? like I do. I have to search for meaning.

Sometimes the prompts that I follow are words that I am not familiar with so I look them up. But when I write I use words that I know and am comfortable with. Being too verbose is not my style of writing.

2. What do you prefer tea or coffee? For any specific flavor, please mention the same.

I prefer coffee over tea any day. I like all the flavors that come unsweetened. Like French vanilla, Hazelnut, Caramel in coffee. And though I love coffee, I cannot have it more than twice a day. So if I want something in the evening, I love earl grey tea.

3. Most of the time, I am found writing while walking to and fro in my room, on my phone’s notepad. Do you like writing on phones or tablets or laptops?

I love blogging from my phone or iPad. It’s the easiest thing to just pick up the phone, open the app and write the ideas swirling in my mind. I got a new laptop but I have not gotten into the habit of blogging on it. Maybe one day!

4. Where would you like to live, if not the current country?

I am happy in my current country. I do like to go on vacation to other places, but love living where I was born.

5. How many books do you have in your own library?

Like most people, I have downsized my book collection a lot. It’s not easy to lug around books especially if you move homes. So when I moved into my own home, I sold/ gave away most of my books that I had already read a few times. I still have my classic book collection and all-time favorites. So maybe about a couple of hundred books.

6. Have you participated in any protests for any social cause? Which one and why?

In my younger day I did but nothing as an adult. In school, we did protest against the infringement of human rights.

7. A motivating line of your own, if this was an award given to you on stage.

Thank you so much for this honor. If I can do it so can you. It only needs hard work!

8. What genre do you prefer in movies?

As life is too serious these days, I prefer lighthearted comedies, superhero movies or documentaries.

9. Are you a bathroom singer?

Nopes. No singer of any sort. I like to whistle along with my favorite songs while walking and listing to my playlist.

10. How do you spend your Sunday?

Relaxing. But since my husband likes to socialize, we usually visit friends and family. I like the weekdays better as I can plan my day according to my own wishes.

11. Do you like watching TV? What do you prefer watching?

I really don’t have time to watch tv anymore because between blogging, walking and meeting my family and friends, there isn’t enough time left. If there is some new show on Netflix, I do catch it but only if I have spare time on my hands.

My 11 Questions;

Why did you start blogging?

Do your friends and family support you in blogging?

What would be your dream job?

What are your ambitions for the coming year?

How do you think the world is going to cope with the challenges we are facing?

What would be your ideal holiday vacation?

What is the quality you admire in yourself?

What is the quality you admire in others?

What is your pet peeve?

Are you a book reader? If so how many books you read in a month?

What aspect of your personality you would like to change?

My Nominations;

Margate and Neal

Leigha Robbins

I have gifted this award to just seven bloggers as opposed to eleven that I am supposed to.

I hope that you will accept the award and pass it forward. If not, I would love to learn more about you all by reading your answers to my questions.

And any one who would like to answer these questions is most welcome.

Thank you so much Beckie, once again for this award. 😍

A Barnabas Award # 1

for the nomination. Please check out her blog, there is something for everyone.

You have been chosen for this recognition because of the encouragement and inspiration you bring to your readers.

The way this works:

Thank the person who nominated you, and share their blog.

Think of five bloggers that encourage and inspire you and nominate them.

List five things about yourself.

Lastly, ask your nominees five questions. Why five? Because is the number that signifies grace.

5 things about me;

I enjoy blogging so much so that I look forward to the time I sit and write my posts.

Though I am a staunch advocate of honesty, my identity is a secret that I am forced to adapt because it gives me the independence to express my view openly.

I prefer to keep my religion to myself and not to did it here. That’s why I won’t be answering the last question.

Helping others comes instinctively to me, though I have sometimes gotten into trouble for it.

I want to stand for the downtrodden and underdog.

Here are Yonnie‘s questions:

1. Share a time when you felt, as if you were alone and why?

It was when I was young and grew up without a mother to care for me or to teach me about life. Though I had a very loving and caring father, a girl needs her mother.

2. How do you encourage and embrace a strangers?

I usually don’t interact with strangers much. But I would offer help if I see someone in need or trouble. If asked, I will give advice or assistance as well.

In blogging world, I do encourage strangers by giving them useful tips on blogging and time management.

3. When you are down, what encourages you to get back up and keep pressing on?

I meditate and talk to myself. I also talk to God and tell Him my problems. This lightens the load on my heavy heart.

I also walk and listen to music which helps to lift my spirits.

4. Name two things ways you encourage others?

I encourage those around me by reinforcing their self confidence. I encourage them to try new things and to believe in their abilities.

My Questions;

How important it is to reinforce self belief in oneself and others?

What inspires you on a daily basis?

How can we inspire our young generation to do the right thing for our planet?

What do you think about teaching moral and ethical values to our children in schools?

What is more important in life, intelligence or hard work?

I am gifting this award to;

Dr Tanya; as she was my inspiration to start blogging.

Fandango; he has inspired me and many other bloggers to write .

Beckie; she has been so supportive of me and many other bloggers here with her wonderful posts , comments and encouragement.

Rory; he is prolific writer, prompter and inspires us all.

Di; she is an inspiration and a wonderful blogger.

Though I have been inspired by so many people here , I find selecting just five restrictive. I must say that my blogging friends have been very kind to me and have always supported me and my blog.

I hope that you will be able to accept this award and select those who have inspired you the most to gift it to.

Liebster Award # 7

I was nominated by Riya Gupta of The world of my thoughts for Liebster Award.

Thank you so much Riya for conferring this honor on my blog. If you are not familiar with Riya’s blog please check it out!

Award Rules:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
2. Share 11 facts about yourself.
3. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
4. Nominate 11 bloggers and make them happy!
5. Make up to 11 questions and ask to your nominees.
6. Notify your 11 nominees.

1. What really makes you angry?

Lots of things, unfortunately. I get angry when there is social injustice, when people don’t realize the implications of their actions in destroying the environment, when I do something stupid for the umpteenth time, when people are rude, racist and unfair. I can go on and on but I think you get the idea.

2. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Dinner. I can go without breakfast and even manage to do without lunch but I can never go to sleep on an empty stomach. So dinner it is!

3. What is your biggest fear?

I have a few fears. Of the material kind, I am afraid of lizards, spiders and other crawlies like roaches.

But I have other fears; emotional ones. I fear that my kids won’t keep in touch with each other after I am gone. I fear to be on bad terms with any member of my family. I fear to be dependent on others in my old age.

4. What has been your best moment this year?

In April this year, we were blessed with two grandchildren, just two days apart. My son and daughter in-law has a baby boy and my daughter and son in-law has a baby girl. A blessing indeed. Both babies are now six months old.

5. If You Could Live Anywhere In The World For A Year, Where Would It Be?

In love visiting places but not to live there for a longer time. I would love to visit Europe, all of it. But to live, I prefer my home.

6. How do you relieve stress?

I meditate. And walk. Music is another stress reliever. Going out with friends and having long conversations with them also helps.

7. Would You Rather Go To Space Or To The Bottom Of The Ocean?

8. What’s your favorite season?

Spring and fall!

9. What’s your favorite sports?

None of the field sports. I like playing games on my phone or laptop.

10. Ice cream or milkshakes?

Neither. My teeth are cold sensitive so I stay away from cold treats.

11. New York or Paris?

My Questions;

Are you a serious blogger or just having fun here?

What was the reason that made you start a blog?

Take a while to think and let us know: what object that is in your reach right now, influences you? ( e g a tv)

How do you relax?

Are you superstitious?

Loyalty to the one you love, or one who is right?

How can we improve the environment of our planet? Do you take any practical steps towards it?

What is one habit you have that you or your family think is childish?

My Nominees;

Susi Bocks

Ms JadeLi

Congratulations to all those nominated. You all have a wonderful blog. I look foot reading your post everyday. Hope you will accept this award.

My first Real Neat Award

Anna of Stralthy has nominated me for The Real Neat Award. Thank you so much, Anna! I appreciate your kind gesture.

The rules for the real neat blog award

  • Display the award logo.✔️
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog.✔️
  • Answer the questions from the blog who nominated you.✔️
  • Nominate seven to ten bloggers.✔️
  • Ask them seven questions.✔️

Anna’s questions:

What is one thing that you love about yourself?

My optimism. I am blessed with this personality trait and I am so grateful for it.

What is one book and one movie everyone should read and watch?

I wouldn’t presume to suggest that I know better than everyone, what they should be reading or watching. Besides it is such a very personal thing, I might love a book or movie and be inspired from it and another person may be totally unaffected by it.

How do you stay on top of things on a busy day/week?

I plan ahead. Sometimes I plan to the extent that I get on the nerves of my family. But planning is the answer to managing time. When I fail to take into consideration my commitments, vis-à-vis my time, I end up in stress.

Would you change your past if you would ever have the opportunity? Explain your answer.

Like everyone else, my past has shaped who I am. If I change my past, I will change who I am. It would be very uncomfortable to live with a person whom I don’t know! So thanks, but no thanks.

What is your favorite person on Instagram?

I don’t follow people on Instagram. Just a few of my favorite businesses, like Sephora or Clinique.

What are your most top 5 used apps on your phone?

My WordPress app, my card games, jigsaw puzzle, YouTube and mail.

Do you keep a journal? If yes, has it helped you in any way?

No, I don’t keep a journal. It is a good habit and always helps to keep one’s thoughts together but I am too lazy to do so. I do admire people who can maintain a journal.

My nominees;

Beckie of Beckie’s Mental Mess

Dr Tanya of Salted Caramel

Melanie of Sparks from the Combustible Mind

Leigha Robbins

Aditya of the Rendezvous club

Just me of HappymessHappiness

Fandango of This That and the Other

Kristian of Tales from the mind of Kristian

Suze of Suziland

Suzette Benjamin

My Questions;

Where does blogging fits in your daily life?

Have you ever tried to do;

a) Paragliding?

b) Horse riding?

c) Deep-sea diving?

Do you celebrate your birthday?

If you have free time at hand, would you go for a walk or a long drive?

Your best friend calls in the middle of the night and asks you to meet them at a deserted place, will you go? BTW, this friend has known to pull pranks!

Congratulations to all those who are nominated/ awarded the award. You’re under no obligation to accept the award. Or to go the whole nine yards. Answering the questions will do if you are too busy to do the rest of the stuff. This award is to acknowledge your blog. Not an imposition on your time.

Congrats once again!

Beckie’s 5 Questions For My Nominees:

1. What are your aspirations in life?

You know that as with all people, my goals and aspirations have changed a lot as I am going through different phases of life. Now that my kids have grown up and living their own lives, my aspirations are bit more personal. I want to do something good for others during the rest of my life. Maybe educated people about certain aspects of life. Or spread awareness about important issues of life. In short I want to be able to say that at the end of my life, “I spent a useful life”

2. If you had $5000, what charity would you donate it to?

I would donate it to ” Doctors Without Borders” they do great work all through the developing countries on very low salaries. I really admire the commitment it takes to choose this course of life.

3. What is your favorite kind of music to chill out to?

Anything that strikes my fancy. I am not fixated at any specific genre. It should be a good melody, interesting lyrics and not grating on my nerves. One sort of music which has never appealed to me is the heavy metal!

4. How would you rate your experience on WordPress?  1 being lowest, 10 being highest.

On the technical side I would say that it’s around 7-8. They have their issues but most of them can be solved if you get in touch with the happiness engineers. The community is absolutely wonderful. This side of WordPress is priceless. I have found friends here who feel like family.

5. Have you gained real friendships through blogging?

I definitely have. I made many friends who feel more like family to me.

Kristian recently was gifted this award and has kindle asked me to answer his questions.

Questions from Kristian;

1. If you were offered £/$ 100,000 to sleep in a haunted house, would you? How would you cope?

I would be very willing to take the Challenge! As I don’t believe that there are ghosts and if there are, they can’t or won’t hurt us. I would take my ear-plugs and a good book to read. I will make an early night of it, and take something to make me sleep soundly. I would hope to wake up in the morning in one piece and of sound mind and body.

2. What was your favourite show as a kid?

The first one I remember was ” Popeye the sailor man”

Popeye and Olive Oyl

3. Do you have any weird habits?

Many! I like to do things in a specific order. If I can’t do that I get stressed out and that day is not good till I get back into my fixed routine. I like my own company. Not that I am a hermit but I don’t mind being on my own and spend time reading, blogging or playing games on my phone! I walk mostly inside the house. I don’t want to go out if it’s too cold or too hot, or if it is too late.

4. If money didn’t matter, what would you do with your life

What I am doing right now! I feel money is important for certain aspects of life but not for having a good life. At my age I would need to put aside some money for emergencies regarding my health. But other than that if I had too much money, I would probably be more worked up instead of enjoying it.

5. What is your favourite thing about yourself?

 I am really grateful that I have a optimistic personality. As they say Sunny! It is inbuilt in me to try to look at bright side of things and lift myself out of gloom and negativity.

In answering these questions, I have shared a lot of things about myself. So I don’t feel the need to do it again.

As for nominations, well I leave it open to any one who wants to answer any or all of the questions from Beckie and Kristian.

I would like to give a shoutout to these fellow bloggers;

Sue Vincent

Kat Myrman

These are all great bloggers. And I have learned a lot from them. There are many others which have influenced me but if I mention them all, I won’t be able to finish this post.

If you guys have the time or inclination to answer the above questions, it would be great.

Another Sunny day! And another Sunshine Blogger Award # 14

Tanya of Salted Caramel

has nominated for my 14th Sunshine Blogger Award.

Tanya has a wonderful blog. A diverse blog with many informative topics. Please go check it out. Thank you so much Tanya for bestowing this honor on my blog.

What is the Sunshine Blogger Award?

“The Blogosphere community holds several awards that bloggers use to nominate a blog in appreciation for its creative, inspiring, or motivational content.”

“The award also helps other bloggers receive recognition and free exposure for their blogs.”

Award’s Rules

There are some basic rules to follow if you decide to participate:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link their blog so everyone can visit.
  • Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 new questions.
  • Notify the nominees by commenting on their blog post.
  • List the rules and display the Award logo on your blog post.

Tanya’s Questions for the Nominees of this Award

1. How old is your blog now?

My blog is going to be one year old in a few weeks. It is because of Tanya that I started blogging in the first instance. So the credit for my blog goes to her.

2. What do you enjoy most about blogging?

Being the sort of person who can talk about my pet topics for hours on end, blogging has given me the perfect opportunity to say whatever I want to say. Surprisingly I didn’t felt shy, even when I wrote my first ever poem and posted it on my blog. Or my very first story. I never felt that I would be ridiculed or people won’t like my writing. I guess that is the most liberating experience.

3. How important do you think Social Media is for the success of a blog?

People ( experts) say that you should advertise your blog on social media sites like Twitter or Facebook. But I don’t think that it is all that important for the popularity of your blog. The content and regularity is more important.

4. How would you define a sucessful blog? In other words, what do think a successfu blog looks like?

For me the most successful blog is the one the blogger enjoys writing and their follower enjoys reading. That is the basic aim of blogging and if you want to measure the success in terms of followers or money made, then there will always be blogs who have many more followers or are making more money.

5. Describe your feelings when you received your first blogging award nomination.

Incredible! I couldn’t believe that someone thought me or my blog, deserving of an award.

6. Have you ever thought about monetizing your blog ?

I have Word-ads on my blog but am thinking of discontinuing them. They just take up space on my site and the money earned is just not worth it.

7. If so, what do you think is the best method of monetizing?

I think the best way to make money is through affiliated links. But I have no idea how it is done.

8. What kind of post fo you find easiest or most enjoyable to write?

Sometimes I enjoy combining a few prompts into a post, at others I like writing about the blogging process itself. It depends upon how I am feeling that day!

9. What is your opinion about writing prompts?

I like the prompts. I admire people who give us the Prompt words day after day. It take s lot of work and thought for doing it.

10. Funny/Weird Question: if you were a superhero, what superpower would you like to have and what would you do with it?

I would like to be Superman and Superwoman rolled into one. Or rather I think Captain Marvel will do. She is supposedly the most powerful hero out there.

11. What is your favourite way to unwind after a hectic day ?

Blogging, or reading. Or maybe relax in front of tv with my feet up. Depends on the sort of the day I’ve had.

Thanks a lot Tanya for this honor, once again.

I am asking anyone who is interested in answering the questions posed by Tanya to give it a shot.

Sorry for not posting new questions of my own but the ones Tanya has asked are very interesting and relevant.

No nomination this time around. The field is open, so anyone reading this, consider yourself nominated.

Thanks for reading!
