Some Sunshine after a long time

Ebar of a Girl with binoculars has very kindly nominated me for a Sunshine Blogger Award

My heartfelt thanks to Ebar for this nomination and these ver interesting questions. Please check out her blog where she writes about a variety of topics.

My questions:

1. How are you, really?

I am good. Contented with my life and at peace. There are always things that aren’t perfect in life but that is part of life. So, yes, I am good. Alhamdolillah ( Thank God)

2. What was the best age of your life?

Now is the best age of my life. As I believe in living in the moment, I feel what is now, the present, it’s the best time of our lives. Besides getting older, ( I’m almost 60 now) has a lot of advantages. You can dress as you like, act as you please, and say outrageous things because people will just shrug and say that she has grown old!

3. What is your best method of relaxation?

I like walking with music, and then the second best is blogging after I’m done for the day. It relaxes me and amuses me.

4. If you have a favourite movie, which one would it be?

There are so many movies I love that I cannot just pick out one. I would go and watch any of the Marvel movies, or a James Bond movie, or a good animated movie at the drop of a hat.

5. How about a book? Which one would you choose?

My most loved book is the Holy Quran. I read it daily and it gives me everything. Guidance, peace, and understanding of life.

6. What do you think of psychology and the way it can help people?

I think everyone should have a basic understanding of psychology. It helps in all walks and roles of life. If we all had a working knowledge of it, we wouldn’t be having so many issues with our relationships.

7. What’s your favourite food?

I am basically a vegetarian. I love well-cooked daal, veggies. The best vegetarian food I ate was from a restaurant in Seattle, veggie grill. They had such scrumptious veggie burgers there that like of such that I haven’t tasted since!

8. What’s your favourite social media platform?

Without a doubt, WordPress. If you call a blogging platform, social media!

9. Do you like hot or cold weather, and why?

I like cooler weather better than hot weather. I feel hot most of the time so cold weather works better for me. Spring and fall are great too because the temperatures are moderate.

10. What’s your idea of an perfect day?

A happy day, free from undue stress, with my family around me.

11. Finally, if you could change something in the past, what would it be?

I don’t want to change anything in the past as that is simply a recipe for disaster. Change the present or the future, don’t mess with what’s done and gone.

➰➰➰

The RULES are simple:

•Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their blog.

•Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.

•Nominate 11 new bloggers to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.

•List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or your blog

I have answered the question and followed the first two rules. But unfortunately, I feel that nominating people for blogging awards is not easy. Most people have now a award free blog and are not keen to play this game.

So I am taking the easy way out. If anyone wants to answer the questions put to me by Ebar, please consider yourself nominated. Thanks for reading.

Many thanks to Ebar for nominating me for this award.

Golden Bloggerz Award

Cranny has very kindly nominated me for this award. Cranny has a wonderful blog and is very active in the blogosphere. If you aren’t already familiar with her, do visit her awesome blog.

Rules;

  1. Place the award logo on your blog .
  2. Mention the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and place a link to their website.
  4. Mention the award’s creator & provide a link too.
  5. Tell your audience 3 things about you.
  6. Nominate 10 – 20 people who deserve this award
  7. Let your nominees know by messaging/commenting on their Social Media or their blog.
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions you want.
  9. Share 2-3 links to your best posts

Three things about me;

I like following my set routine and doing things in a certain order so that I remain stress free. I like to have at least a days worth of posts done beforehand. That’s why I usually respond to prompts a day later.

• Reading was my most beloved pastime before I started my blog, now it is blogging. I can spend literally half a day on my blog, reading, commenting and writing. It keeps away boredom and gives me the chance to interact with people from all over the globe.

I love gardening but I usually have very little success in growing things. They usually shrivel and die on me. So I have recruited a gardener to look after the beautiful plants I buy. This Clerodendrum was planted four years ago and is thriving, giving flowers all through spring and summer.

Cranny’s Questions;

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration from my everyday life, from my fellow bloggers and the numerous prompts that I follow. I get my best ideas while walking or just before going to sleep. The later ones I often forget, but I am sure they are bringing ideas.

Is there something you still prefer to do the good ol’ way, even if technology has evolved?

Though I have a kindle, I like reading old-fashioned books made out of paper. Another old-fashioned thing I like to do is if I have time is to make my hummus. It’s way better than the store-bought and way cheaper.

Would you rather be allowed to go where ever you want, but never leave your home country, or be allowed to travel anywhere in the world, but never be allowed back in your own country?

I would choose my home country every time. The rest of the world is beautiful and attractive but it’s not home. I love my circle of friends and acquaintances and at my age, this is more important than sightseeing for me.

What day of your life would you like to be able to re-live whenever you wished to?

I don’t think I’ll choose to relive any day from my past life. A brand new day, every day with untold treasures in it is better than a day I’ve already seen and lived.

When you get up, do you need time to slowly awaken, or are you in a good mood as soon as you spring out of bed?

Most days I wake up right away. Even if I went to bed late. The reason is that I plan the start of my day before I go to bed. There is a routine I follow and I like to keep to it. Besides, I have to offer my morning prayer, Fajr and its time is limited, it has to be offered before sunrise and I cannot tarry in bed lest I miss it.

My Questions;

Do you like blogging awards? And do you think they add value to your blog?

Do you write your posts following your own ideas or do you, like me, mostly rely on prompts?

Who or what is the most important factor in your life?

Are you a creature of habit or do you try new things, like music, food, or a new author?

Before the pandemic, did you relaxed on a weekend by going out or chilling at home?

♾♾♾♾

Now the hardest part of the award post, the nominations. Though I do like to give a shoutout to many of my blogging buddies, most people run an award free blog.

So I am nominating you, the reader for this award. Answer my 5 questions or both mine and Cranny’s.

Thank you so much for reading. And once again my heartfelt thanks to Cranny for the nomination.

Outstanding Blogger Award

Just me of Happymesshappiness very kindly nominated me for this award. The rules are;

Rules:

  1. Provide the link to the creator’s original award post. (very important: see why in step 5)
  2. Answer the questions provided.
  3. Create 7 unique questions.
  4. Nominate 10 bloggers. Ensure that they are aware of their nomination. Neither the award’s creator, nor the blogger that nominated you, can be nominated.
  5. At the end of 2020, every blog that ping-backs the creator’s original post will be entered to win the 2020 Outstanding Blogger Award!

The Questions:

1. How did the Covid-19 affect your life?

Like everyone in this world, my life was affected by Covid-19 in many ways. My travel plans had to be delayed by months. I am lucky that I had no pressing need to return home and I was living with my daughter at the time. I used that time to improve my health, I increased my walking time and managed to lose some weight.

2. What one special thing would you like to do for the world?

What I really want to do for the world in my small way is to increase awareness about social inequality. I write about it in my blog and in real life I talk about it with my friends and family.

Maybe we all can make a difference if we all do our part.

3. It’s almost the end of the year, what one thing do you want to accomplish before saying goodbye to 2020?

I don’t think that I will completely achieve what my goal is but I will keep on working on improving my health, losing weight, and inculcating healthy habits in my lifestyle.

4. What do you look most forward to in 2021?

I think I won’t be the only one who would be hoping for a Covid-19 free world next year when we can get together with friends for casual meetings or go out to catch a movie, go visit another city or country. So keeping my fingers crossed, I hope that it will be possible to cautiously go to a degree of normalcy in the coming year.

5. What is your favorite song of all time?

Since my taste and choices in music keep on changing, there no all-time favorite song. There are lots of current favorites. One song that always makes me smile is;

Happy by Pharrell Williams;

https://youtu.be/ZbZSe6N_BXs

6. What one book would you recommend to everyone?

I wouldn’t presume to tell others what they should be reading. My favorites are fiction and romance. But people should read what they can relate to and enjoy reading.

7. What one question would you like to ask me?

I would like to know your name. I have been following your blog for the last two years but I don’t know how to address you!

~*~

These are very interesting questions and I would ask my nominees to answer them too.

Blogger Recognition Award

Navaparna of the Passionate Learner has very kindly nominated me for this award

The Rules:

  1. Thank the blogger that nominated you and give a link to their site.
  2. Do a post to show your award.
  3. Give a summary of how your blog started.
  4. Give two pieces of advice for any new bloggers.
  5. Select at least 15 other bloggers for this award.
  6. Let each nominee know you’ve nominated them and give a link to your post.

How I started my blog;

I have told this story often but for the sake of this post, I will tell it briefly. My good friend, Tanya started a blog on WordPress and asked me to check out her posts. Now I could open her blog and read her posts from my browser but I couldn’t comment on them. I thought that to do this with ease, I should make an account on WordPress too. From this first step, the next one was to start my own blog came quite naturally. As as they say, I never looked back.

My advice to new bloggers:

• Write as much or as little you want.

Never be intimidated by the demands of writing more than what is convenient for you. Or less than what you want. Bear in mind that it is your blog and you can do whatever you want on it. Be genuine and always be yourself. Don’t try to emulate anyone else.

Do interact with others on blogosphere;

Blogging is not a solitary activity. It means being part of a community. Most of the fun of blogging comes from interacting with others here. Build your community and be appreciative of those who show interest in your blood by returning the favor.

Sunshine Blogger Award- Twice nominated

Jennifer from PaperKutzs had nominated me for this award a while ago.

I was also very kindly nominated by Sangeetha of Mindfills for this award as well.

I want to that both, Jennifer and Sangeetha for this honor to my blog. Please drop in on their blogs to check out their posts.

So here is a combination post!

Here are the Sunshine blogger award rules.

RULES: Thank the person who nominated you, add the link to their blog, answer the eleven questions given to you, nominate 11 other bloggers, ask your nominees 11 other questions and notify your nominees after you upload your post.

Jennifer’s 11 Questions;

Do you have a niche blog or do you have different types of posts?

I don’t have a niche. I love doing a variety of posts and follow a lot of prompts.

If you have a niche blog what is your niche?

See the above answer.

How long have you been blogging?

My blog just turned 2 years old on 6th September.

• Is your blogging still a passion or has it become a chore?

My blogging is still my passion. It is a wonderful way to use my spare time and to interact with my friends in the blogging community.

When choosing to let another blogger know you are interested in their blog do you just hit like or do you leave a comment?

It depends on the type of post I am reading. If it is the sort where a discussion is going on, I like leaving my views. If it’s a poem or story that I liked I would like that post.

How often do you post and respond to other blogs?

I post daily, 3-4 times, and visit the blogs I follow daily too. Sometimes I cannot visit all the blogs I follow but I do try.

• What is your usual blogging routine?

Whenever I get time. It’s usually early in the morning and then before bedtime.

• If you live outside the United States, are you having the same riots that are occurring in the US?

I was living in Seattle till recently, when I moved back to my own country, Pakistan. There were a lot of riots in Seattle concerning the “Black lives matter” movement. In my country, we do have social injustice too but of a different nature. As yet thankfully things aren’t that bad and no protests are going on.

• Where is your favorite place to work on your blog?

Anywhere! Provided I have peace and quiet to think and write.

• If you still have younger children when do you find blogging time?

No young children, all are grown up with kids of their own. Though my grandkids sometimes want to play with grandma and then I postpone my writing to give them time.

Has you ever had the feeling that blogging was becoming overwhelming and considered ending your blogging?

Sometimes, when I have other commitments and cannot give blogging my usual attention, I feel a bit stressed. But never overwhelmed enough to consider giving it up. It’s a form of entertainment for me and a stress buster.

Sangeetha’s 11 questions;

1. What’s love got to do with it ? Tina Turner

Everything revolves around love. Without love, life is not living, be it the love of a person or our passion for things and ideas in life.

2. What if we said goodbye to safe and sound? Troye Sivan

Why not? Take the highway to adventure and live dangerously.

3. Who’s zoomin who ? Aretha Franklin 😉

Everyone is Zooming everyone else. Especially school kids and their teachers!

4. How do you sleep? Sam smith

Soundly some days and not much on others. It’s directly related to my level of tiredness and the amount of coffee I’ve had.

5. How do you want to be remembered – Magic

With joy and smiles.

6. What if God was one of us? Joan Osbourne

God is in all of us.

7. Where did all the good people go? Jack Johnson

They are still among us, otherwise, this place would’ve become hell.

8. Are you listening? Paramore

I do try. I am training myself to talk less and listen more.

9. Do you practice what you preach? Black eyed peas

I do try. And when I don’t, my family calls me out on it! Very often.

10. What are you waiting for? Nickelback

I am waiting to complete this post and pre-schedule it so I can go sit with my daughter and grandson.

11. Why worry? Dire straits

Why indeed! Worry never solved anything in anyone’s life ever. Live in the moment and don’t borrow trouble from tomorrow.

I am digressing from the rules here. I am a bit pushed for time to think of new questions and as for nominating 11 bloggers, that usually doesn’t works that well.

So if you, The reader would like, consider yourself nominated for The Sunshine Blogger Award, answer any 11 of the questions that I have answered or all 22.

My sincere thanks to both Jennifer and Sangeetha for this wonderful award!

Another Real Neat Blog Award

Caz of Mentalhealth360 UK has very kindly nominated me for this award!

Rules of the Real Neat Blog Award

Gold character holding a large golden cup with Awards written on it
Real Neat Blog Award

  • Display the award logo
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog
  • Answer the questions of the one who nominated you
  • Nominate some bloggers
  • Ask them seven questions

Caz’s seven questions

• What was the last book/film that captivated you and why?

I read “A man called Ove” by Fredrik Backman. I really loved it. The narrative was simple yet very enchanting. It is full of humor and at the same time deals with the realities of life in a very pragmatic manner.

Who made you the best Dinner ever, and What was it?

The best dinner obviously was made by me. But whenever I cook for a special occasion, it never comes out the way I imagined it. So it was on a random evening that I rustled up something and it turned out great.

Did you ever have a Dream come true and was it anything like you imagined it to be?

Many times in life I have realized my dreams. Like getting married to the best man ever, (obviously I would think that) or losing the excess weight that I am carrying ( I have done this one a few times)!

Having a dream come true is the best feeling ever. You just have to be consciously aware of it and appreciate your good fortune.

• Why did you start your blog?

I started blogging on a whim and stuck to it because it is so much fun. I am learning new things every day and my writing skills are improving too.

And the best thing about blogging is that I’ve made fantastic new friends here.

• If you could take one thing/occurrence out Of the history of Mankind what would it be? Why?

I would take all the wars out of human history. All that bloodshed has not earned us anything, just a lot of history which is shameful to follow.

• Did the current situation around the Pandemic have any positive side effects on your Life? Can you give an example?

I was visiting my daughter in Seattle when we were told to self-isolate ourselves due to the pandemic.

As I was not going anywhere so I decided to up my daily walking target. Now I walk for about two hours in the morning and around 20-30 minutes after dinner. Thanks to all this walking I have lost around 25 pounds in the last 4 months.

My Seven Questions;

• What do you think is your biggest achievement in life?

• What sort of books you like to read?

• Are you a collector?

• What one activity you miss most, which you haven’t been able to do due to the lockdown?

Another Award!

Di of Pensitivity has conferred another honor on my blog.

A Sunshine Blogger Award!

Di is a very versatile blogger and has a wonderful blog.

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given by bloggers to bloggers who inspire positiveness and creativity in the blogging community.

The rules are:

1. Thank blogger(s) who nominated you and link back to their blog.

2. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

4. Nominate up to 11 new blogs to receive the award, write them 11 new questions and notify them about the nomination.

Di’s Questions:

1.   Do you plan your blogging day, or just log in and go with the flow?

I plan. Most of my posts are written a day earlier. Except for the daily prompt post. I spend a couple of hours on my blog when I wake up, and a couple more after dinner. During the day, I glance at it from time to time to keep up with the comments and new posts.

2.   If you have a garden, do you prefer flowers or vegetables, or a mixture of both?

I do have a garden and there are flowers and a few trees there. No vegetables unfortunately as it’s not big enough.

3.   Can you swim underwater?

I can’t swim at all. If I go underwater, I’ll probably won’t surface again!

4.   When was the last time you rode a bicycle (push bike)?

That would be 35 years ago. I loved to ride my bike but with age, it just got away from me.

5.   What is your favourite part of a cooked breakfast? (bacon, eggs, sausage etc)

Eggs scrambled with cheese. Or a Mexican omelet. And hot croissants with butter.

6.   Do you sing in the shower?

Nopes! Very bad at singing. I don’t want the neighbors to feel threatened!

7.   What unnerves you most, being stared at by a dog/cat, or a child?

I would say a menacing stare from any of the above.

8.   Do you still have your appendix?

I do! I just don’t have my real knees anymore. The rest is almost there. Maybe I lost my mind or bits of it!

9.   Glasses or contacts, or neither?

I wore glasses since grade six. Then in college, I shifted to contacts. And three years ago I got cataract surgery done in both eyes and now I just need reading glasses. Yeyyyy!

10. What is your favourite day of the week and why?

Before the lockdown, I loved Mondays. After the weekend, it felt good to be on my own and to spend the day as I liked.

Sunshine Blogger Award

Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link back to their blog so others can find them.
  • List the rules and display an award logo on your blog post.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and notify them by commenting on any of their posts.
  • Ask the nominees 11 new questions.

Questions;

1) What is your favorite holiday and how do you celebrate it?

I love spring break. I usually visit my daughter and spend time with my grandson. The weather is just perfect and we plan out excursions together. It’s a fun time for us and I get to spoil him!

2) If you could travel in space, would you?

If I passed the fitness test, I would. Imagine how wonderful the view must be!

3) Dogs or cats? If you answer cats, we can still be friends even though it is wrong answer haha.

If I say neither, will we still be friends?

4) Besides Lord of the Rings, the best movies ever, and Star Wars, tied for best movies ever, what is your favorite movie?

I really enjoyed the Avengers series by Marvel. And the related movies to this saga, like Captain America, Ironman, and Thor!

5) If I was your neighbor, could I visit for dinner? If so, how often?

Come as often as you like, if you don’t mind simple food.

6) What is a place where you live that you recommend people visit?

I’d recommend that you visit Seattle! It’s an awesome place. The weather is mostly moderate and there are tons of places to visit. The only downside is the rain. Be sure to bring your umbrella with you.

7) What is a favorite quote of yours and by who?

I think these quotes can be considered gems of wisdom;

” Things can always be worse”

“Look at the bright side”

I have no idea who was the person who said these wise words.

8) What does Christmas mean to you?

Being a Muslim, I celebrate Christmas as a holiday.

9) Why do you blog? What motivates you to blog?

I love writing and sharing my thoughts with my blogging family. This is my reason and my motivation.

10) When you write in your blog, where do you like to be and do you snack?

I find a comfortable spot and I usually have my cup of decaf coffee with me. With the amount of time I spend blogging, I cannot afford to snack. I would gain a lot of weight.

Thank you so much, Riya. I am sorry it took me so long to get to this post. It got lost in my draft folder.

I am once again very grateful for this award!

This is the third award post for me in one week and I have one more to do in the coming days.

So I am not nominating anyone by name, I’m inviting anyone who is interested to answer the questions by Riya.
