A childhood favorite
John Denver- Take me home
Lyrics;
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growin’ like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
All my memories gather ’round her
Miner’s lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
I hear her voice in the mornin’ hour, she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Drivin’ down the road, I get a feelin’
That I should’ve been home yesterday, yesterday
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, (down) country roads
Take me home, (down) country roads

One of my all-time favourites π When I am alone, I love singing backup to this and imagining myself as sounding much, much better than I actually do π€

My brother-in-law is from West Virgina, and this song always makes me think about him. I don’t think that I would like to live there, but it would probably be a nice place to visit.

A favorite indeed. I saw him do this in his concert and you could feel the love of home in the room. It was amazing.

I love that song, too. I heard it on our Sirius radio driving to the store. I love the 70s station.

I think I love older songs because of the association they have with our carefree childhood.

I love Denver’s music. I was fortunate to see him during one of his final tours. That audience kept interrupting him with requests to play, “Annie’s Song” and then when he acquiesced they continued to interrupt him to play it again. It was a good concert, but he seemed angry and frustrated by the show.

Thatβs great!!!!
Any artist would get frustrated if interrupted too often. They also have their favorites and would like to sing them too.
