If he met me today!

➰➰➰

Looking in the mirror I see my father’s eyes

Looking inside my heart I remember daddy’s lessons

Feeling his loss, I write a song for dad, honoring him

He is gone from my life almost twenty years now

But I still carry him in my being with his DNA embedded into mine

I adjust my thoughts, my behavior always thinking, ‘What will he say’

If I ever fall short of the high standards he ingrained in me

The way to show my respect, to honor my father, I believe

Is to be the daughter he would have been proud of, had he seen me now

    1. Thank you Susi. It was something my elder brother said when he missed our father’s funeral and burial. It stuck with me. We all carry our ancestors in our genes.
