Sunday Poser # 124

Welcome back to another Sunday Poser

This week my question is;

Do you believe in luck?

This question has been asked recently by Rory too. I guess with St Pat day being celebrated on Friday, Irish luck must be on people’s minds.

While I don’t believe that anything or anyone is lucky or unlucky, I do believe that good fortune can befall us as a result of our endeavors. You can say that what’s the difference between good luck and good fortune?

I think that luck implies a random incident, that doesn’t depend on our input. While good fortune can be an enhanced reward or outcome of our own actions. Like you’ve studied hard for the exams, and the questions asked were the ones you were especially well prepared for. Anyway, this is my thinking!

What are your views on this topic? Do you believe in luck, being lucky or unlucky?

Please share your thoughts in the comments section or you can write your own post and link it to this one so that I can find it.

As usual, thanks of visiting and reading.

  1. Like everyone else, Sadje I think we are rewarded by our efforts. I guess luck is the same as chance, its random. Just like the lottery … to unpredictable to live life on a whim, hoping that something might happen. It’s like believing in fate … we want something to happen, you have to put in effort

  2. I don’t believe people are inherently lucky or unlucky. Most often good fortune finds those who practice due diligence. But I do think a small element of random luck kicks in occasionally, too.

    1. Thanks Sandy for sharing your thoughts. I agree that luck favors the people working hard. And the random luck too may have some element of design by destiny behind it.

  3. I do believe in luck to some extent. I believe that sometimes unexpected and fortunate events occur that are beyond our control, and we refer to them as “luck.” However, I also believe that our actions and decisions play a significant role in shaping our lives and that we can create our own luck to a certain extent through hard work and determination.

    For example, if someone works hard towards their goals and puts themselves in situations where opportunities are more likely to arise, they are increasing their chances of experiencing positive outcomes. In this sense, luck can be seen as a combination of opportunity and preparation.

    On the other hand, there are also instances where bad luck seems to strike out of nowhere, such as unexpected accidents or illnesses. In these situations, it can be difficult to see any rhyme or reason to the events that have occurred, and it can be easy to attribute them to simply being “unlucky.”

    Overall, I believe that luck is a complex and mysterious force that we may never fully understand. While it is important to recognize that we do not have control over everything that happens in our lives, we can still take action to increase our chances of success and happiness.

  4. As with anything in life, some good fortune is due to a person’s efforts, and some random. The same with bad fortune. I do think that being fully prepared gives you more advantages than someone who is not.

  5. I think it is good luck to win the lottery, but by purchasing a ticket we put ourselves out there in hopes of winning. Bad luck an also be a situation we put ourselves in… caught in a downpour – we didn’t head the warnings of the weatherman.
