(Respond to this challenge, by either by using the prompt word sun, or going with the above picture, or by means of the song ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me)
An old favorite from my childhood days;
Seasons in the Sun- Terry Jacks
Lyrics;
Goodbye to you, my trusted friend
But we’ve known each other since we were nine or ten
Together, we’ve climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and ABC’s
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees
Goodbye, my friend, it’s hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I’ll be there
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time
Goodbye, papa, please pray for me
I was the black sheep of the family
You tried to teach me right from wrong
Too much wine and too much song
Wonder how I got along
Goodbye, papa, it’s hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Little children everywhere
When you see them, I’ll be there
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Goodbye, Michelle, my little one
You gave me love and helped me find the sun
And every time that I was down
You would always come around
And get my feet back on the ground
Goodbye, Michelle, it’s hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
With the flowers everywhere
I wish that we could both be there
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine…

I know but I never felt sad when I listen to it. Perhaps the tune and the music is uplifting

Terry Jacks never had another big hit like this. This song is about a man who is about to die, and he says his goodbyes to his loved ones, which must be heartbreaking. The French Belgian poet-composer Jacques Brel wrote and performed this in 1961 and it was titles as ‘Le Moribond’ which translates to ‘The Dying Man’. Originally this song was written about an old man who was dying of a broken heart, because his best friend was screwing his wife. Brel wrote his version while he was in a whorehouse in Tangiers, and the words were quite different and done to a marching tune. While the old man was dying of a broken heart, he was saying goodbye to his priest and his best friend and his wife Francoise, who cheated on him. He forgave her for cheating on him with his best friend, and he admitted that without her that he would have had a lonely life. It was nice to hear this song again, Sadje thanks for sharing it.
