On the ledge

Standing here on the verge of a big change in her life, she looks deep inside her heart to find the courage to take the next step.

Life has given her a big opportunity, disguised as a challenge and she had recognized it for what it was, but to go forward she needed guts and chutzpah.

She remembered her dad’s oft-repeated saying, “nothing in life worth having comes easy”, yes! she promises herself to at least give it her best shot.

The next morning she went to her CEO and accepted the promotion and the relocation that came with it. “Will you be alright living in Kenya, all by yourself? “he asked with genuine concern.

Yes, she said I have thought about it and find it an acceptable option, after all, that’s what I signed in for, to help the poor and needy” she replied with confidence.

  1. In my younger years, I’d have jumped at the chance. In fact, I did — even without a job offer. Garry made two hops from NY to Boston. Owen has moved around too. I think we all like moving much more when we aren’t so weighed down by possessions and human connections — and we are physically more maneuverable. I can’t believe how much ENERGY I had in my 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. Only when I hit my 60s did I really begin to feel the changes.

Bravo! She faced fear disguised as “challenge” and saw the opportunity instead. It’s not easy for a lot of us to venture into the unknown let alone the unknown in another country. She is lucky to have Dad’s wisdom to guide her.

  3. I am in awe of those who can just pick up and go. Perhaps in a younger life… I might have done so if given the opportunity. But then we all need that same determination to face each day as a gift 🙂
