Welcome back to another Sunday Poser

This week my question is;
What makes you want to comment on a post?
A blogger who follows many blogs knows that it’s not possible to read all the posts from all the bloggers they follow every day. How do you choose which posts to read and on which posts to comment?
This is a tricky question!
Some bloggers are not mere fellow bloggers but friends. I’d read all of their posts every day and would comment if there is something I can add to the conversation. Then there are those bloggers who are like casual acquaintances, whose posts I try to read if I have time and leave a comment if I feel the need.
How do you handle the reading and commenting on the blogs you follow?
Please share your thoughts in the comments section or you can write your own post and link it to this one so that I can find it.
As usual, thanks of visiting and reading.

Great question Sadje. I am the same. I use my WP notifier to receive notifications of the blogger friends whose posts I read and comment on frequently. And then, when time permits, I go to the WP Reader to browse and consume the offerings of other bloggers whom I follow.

Thanks a lot for sharing Suzette! I think this is the right way to do it.

Yes, I always desire to read more of the great posts out there in WP- land…but (sigh) time is limited.

I follow around 200 blogs, but most of those bloggers don’t post daily. I tend to skim and not comment on super long posts because they’re generally boring. I may leave a like though (I never like without skimming/reading.) There are some exceptions for people who write stuff I’m generally interested in. I comment when I have something to say and/or if I feel I haven’t commented on that blog for a while. I definitely don’t comment on every post in my reader!

That would a very hard task to undertake. I agree with your strategy Paula. Thanks for sharing

I follow too many bloggers (250 or so) to comment on all posts. If a post is too long so that I can’t get to other posts that day, I don’t stop to read and comment. If the blogger posts daily, I don’t spend all the extra cumulative time commenting, just every so often. If the post is highly political or angry, I skip that post (I get enough politics in the news and anger over on Twitter). Otherwise, I try to read and comment. It actually makes me a little sad if I’m having a crazy-busy day and can’t comment.

I do read the posts from the bloggers I regularly follow, but not leave a comment on every post. As for political posts; they often don’t need a comment

I actually am a newbie in this platform☺.. So I don’t follow a lot of people… So for now it’s easy for me to stay updated…and I used to comment for the posts which really deserves an appreciation..and I am also a people person,so I prefer to keep up with the conversations, And as for the bloggers… I choose to follow them cuz their works are really really beyond words💖.

How nice of you. There was a time that I could do that too. But it’s okay not to read every post from every blogger one follows. Thanks for sharing

Great Question Sadje!
Engagement is important to me and I agree with you on the friend, aquantaice and meeting new bloggers front. I know how much time it takes in creating and creativity in my posts and I’m so appreciative of my followers and can’t wait to see what they have for the day. I spend too long commenting and should probably skip more than I do with as many followers as I have but it’s tough. It’s a a work in progress but darn I bet I droned on too long again my friend!
😂💖🌞😂😂😂
Happy Sunday!

A wonderful inquiry. From the beginning of my blogging career, there have been sites, and people, who I’ve resonated with, with what they share, and with who they are as human beings. There is a core group here, many of which I’ve been following for over two years, and then as the sites I follow expand out from there, I try to comment on the blogs I resonate with, yet, as you write, it’s not always possible. I do my best, and, likewise, those people do the same with my blog. It’s a delicate balance, and as sites continue to grow, there are more people and blogs to get to know. So much fun! Thank you for the question, Sadje.

Thanks a lot for sharing Jeff. I know that you always leave a nice comment on my posts. You’re very right that as we are growing as a community, the time is getting shorter so some compromise has to be made.

You’re most welcome, Sadje. It’s always my pleasure. Ah, well, in a way my blogging journey began right here on your blog. You’re one of my fav bloggers and a dear friend. Indeed, some compromises always have to be made. I’m managing my time okay right now, yet, as you know, I have made choices to post less, and sometimes, read less too. It’s all a balance as we all grow. Either way, it’s still the best ride! 😁

so, for me, generally, it’s mostly two factors – reciprocity and my interest. but it’s not black-and-white, of course.
if somebody regularly and meaningfully interacts with me at TSK, I usually end up following them and commenting on a fairly regular basis. However, sometimes there are blogs that I find uninteresting for various reasons, and this doesn’t always work out… Still, first and foremost, I care about having real relationships with real people on WordPress.
there are also some people who are so interesting that I follow them even though they rarely interact with me… but the truth is that this number is becoming less and less as more people enter my WordPress social circle – simply by virtue of the fact that my time is limited.
so, in summation – real relationships first and foremost (tempered by interest in content)

Ah, you’ve said it so well and so comprehensively David. That the gist of it. Thanks for sharing

I may be in the minority here, but even though I consider some of my blogging buddies friends, there’s not a single blogger among the 200+ bloggers I follow whose every post I comment on or even read. I also honestly don’t think I could probably develop genuine friendships merely by interacting on our blogs, but that could be related to the above. As for what gets me to read a post, it’s usually the post title being interesting in my feed reader. Then, when I click on a post, what gets me to comment instead of merely clicking the “like” button is if I have something I can contribute.

Thanks Astrid for sharing your thoughts! Not everyone can bond with others over blogs. Some do as they share more personal stuff and can connect with others.

I wish I could comment on everything I read, but there is just not enough time as I follow so many blogs! Generally, I will comment if something really stands out or evokes some emotion. Things that are striking or make me go wow, usually, but also just to check in with those I’ve haven’t talked to in a bit.

I would say that the illustrations or photographs of a post lead me to comment on them, at times. During other times, if i find relatable poetry on someone’s blog, i end up leaving a comment there.

🙂 I comment only when I want to comment. I fear that if I comment too often, WordPress’s algorithm might end up viewing my comment as spam (The last thing that I want is to end up in Akismet’s prison).
I have seen innocuous comments from others in my Spam section of comments and wondered, “Why are those wonderful comments there?”

Akismet has no rhyme or reason. I daily rescue many comments.

Interesting question which possibly we all have faced. Possibly in frustration or guilt. The limitation of time is the easiest one to blame. The dilemma of the best way to use the limited time is to either blog or comment. And in the balance the need to blog weighs more, leaving just enough space for the likes. Yes, there are blogs which evoke emotions and spontaneous comments. So I guess it has to do with heart, what create an echo. Like this one I guess 😊

I think you’ve said it very well. It has to come from the heart. A post or poem that demands a response gets it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

I comment when I feel like I have anything at all to add to the conversation, even if it is just a compliment on the photograph they posted (follow plenty of photoblogs!) I still try to say a bit more than just “wow, pretty!” Or “good post dude” cause that is what the like button is shorthand for lol.

Good question. When you first start blogging you don’t know anyone, but as you go along you tend to see the same faces and get to know a little about the person. Then some become regulars coming to mine, and me to theirs. I try to leave a comment if there is something I can maybe add a bit that I may have had the same thing happen to me (whatever it might be). I’ll comment on a really beautiful photo, and for sure if someone has lost a pet or a family member, I will always comment in sympathy, as I know how they feel.

I don’t follow too many blogs but still can’t comment on all of them on a regular basis.
The blogs from the bloggers I regularly interact with, are my priority to comment on and if I don’t have much time, I leave short compliments in their comment section just to let them know I stopped by. On the other hand, I usually comment on other blogs that have inspiring, emotion/thought-provoking contents.
When there’s a poem that truly moved me, I’d make sure to comment to let the writer know how I appreciate their piece.
Thank you for this question Sadjie, may you have a great week ahead of you!

I usually select the blog posts I find interesting to read and even leave a comment down their posts. It’s not possible to read all posts every time but its the topic and the bloggers who write mind blowing stuff that gets to me

Time. The only thing that truly influences my commenting is time. Do I have enough time to really read the post? Do I have enough time to make sure I understand it? Do I have enough time to leave one of my typically verbose responses? These things all matter, for me anyway.

Yup, it all comes down to the times we have.

Yes… in so many ways. The time together, the time apart, the time to ourselves… so much depends on the depleting resource of time…

But it’s the chain of supply and demand. Demand would go down if the supply was greater – that’s why it’s a precious resource, it can never grow back. So live it, love it, keep it pushin!

There is no one “rule” I follow when it comes to commenting on posts… basically if it triggers a question or is something that resonates with me I comment. For the most part though I try to read all the posts of those I follow. I have had a couple of “resets” I have had to do to catch up… but I keep trying to stay caught up.
