Sunday Poser # 79

Welcome back to another Sunday Poser. Today is Mothers Day! A very happy Mother’s Day to all my friends who celebrate Mother’s Day.

This week my question is;

Do you celebrate Mother’s Day?

I never got to celebrate Mother’s Day with my own mother. She passed away when I was just a child. In my country, there was no concept of Mother’s Day before the start of 21st century. When all the people, especially the commercial organizations woke up to the potential for making money of these special days, they were promoted aggressively.

When my kids, especially my daughters reached the age of awareness, they did celebrate Mother’s Day and gave me special treats and presents. My son however seldom remembers to do so. But, though I feel that it’s a good idea to honor and pamper your mom on a special day, family is for ever and we should be kind and thoughtful towards them all year round.

Did you make a special effort to celebrate Mother’s Day with your mom? Did you take her out for a celebration meal or gave her gifts?

Please share your thoughts in the comments section or you can write your own post and link it to this one so that I can find it.

As usual, thanks of visiting and reading.

  2. No. I have no children. I AM a ‘fur kid mom” of course, but Ziggy isn’t great about remembering nor commemorating special days. Today, however, would have been my mother’s 95th birthday if she were alive. She loved it when the 8th fell on Mother’s Day, she was born on one.

  3. We always celebrated Mother’s Day with our mother. There were cards and gifts. When she and my father moved to another state, we sent cards and gifts and called. Both of my parents are gone now, so Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are days of remembering.

  4. Nope, I do not celebrate Mother’s Day, although I do enjoy it when my oldest son says “Happy Meem’s Day” because it is something special and unique to our relationship. The rest of it, I just don’t like it as it took something that was special initially to commemorate a wonderful relationship and made it into something so commercial and frankly said, so meaningless. In addition, as a society, we glorify mothers yet there are so many that can’t or don’t want to be mothers. I feel it leaves that segment to feel as if they are rejected with all this hoopla.

    1. The commercialization has made this day into something it wasn’t meant to be. When your kids wish you with sincerity, it makes it real and heartwarming. Thanks for sharing Susi

  5. Mother’s Day is a mixed bag of emotions. My mom has been gone for nearly 12 years now and I miss her today and everyday. This year my daughter had to work an especially long shift at work so we will be together tomorrow… that is what I want most for any holiday is to spend time with her.

    1. There are relationships like that which are complicated for reasons that aren’t very apparent. But as long as it is a working relationship, I think it’s okay.
