Personal experiences, incidents and smiles

Why?
Why do we get our best ideas when we are about to drop off to sleep!
And forget about them when we wake up?
Why when we start for an appointment on time, we are late by half an hour
And if we leave five minutes early, we have bushels of time to spare?
Why the day we wash the car, it is going to rain so hard and cover it in mud
And if we don’t wash it hoping it will rain to wash away the dirt, it doesn’t?
Why when we want to cook something special for someone special
It will be quite a failure in the departments of taste and looks
And a meal cooked in fifteen minutes, comes out looking like cordon bleu?
A special day, a special occasion and doing the best we can to look dazzling
Turns out that the dress, chosen with care is unflattering
And after hours spend on the hair, it’s fallen flat!
Why the best laid plan of mice and men often go awry?
Why?

I am sure you must have experienced such incidents and have asked, Why?
This poem is a re-share as I wrote in three years back!
Hope you will share some of your experiences in comments.

I often ask these questions too 🤣. I often think of Sod’s law or more commonly, Murphy’s Law which states that if it is possible for something to go wrong, it will go wrong. Not that I really understand this law 🤷🏼♂️. Great blog post!

Thank you so much! I think it’s a universal law!

Ha! Good one, Sadje!
So many whys and never an answer, which is all the more frustrating. But knowing that others too experience it, mitigates the frustration to some extent.

Thanks Punam! You’re very right, it feels better when there are others who are in the same boat

So relatable. The first one has happened to me so many times;-)…Some why’s just don’t seem to have an answer Sadje. Good take on the letter W!

I’ve experienced these too. My favorite to say to my students was one I heard very long ago.
Why is it when I study for a test it is easy and when I don’t the teacher makes it hard?

Thanks Lauren! Your quote is often true!

Thought provoking post. Reality has its own way of throwing a monkey wrench into the best laid plans of mice and men.

With regards to the first one: The trick is to train yourself to wake up and write (or speak) a memo to yourself so you don’t forget.

I’ve been told this before, but I’m too lazy to do that.

Why? Because opposites attract and the very fact of doing, planning or thinking one thing…the opposite is pulled into play…

Oh, yes, excellent reflections, Sadje. My favorite is when I have all the time in the world and my hair doesn’t cooperate, yet when I am running late, it just does itself. Weird, and ultimately helpful! 🤣😅

Aah! A cord touched somewhere. As my mom would say instead of asking a ‘Why’ ask ‘What’ — what can I do to make the best of the situation. A great post.

Oh no! I am so sorry for your loss Sadje. Six is such a tender age to lose a parent, especially your mom. I am so sorry, once again.

No worries my dear, it was a long time ago. I was more than compensated by having a very loving and caring father. And later on my mother in law was a very kind woman. Thanks 🙏🏼

Why does my hair look great today when I’m just staying home? Hehe I can relate to this.

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery, and died the next day
It’s a black fly in your Chardonnay
It’s a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn’t it ironic?
Don’t you think?
It’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
And who would’ve thought? It figures
Mr. Play-It-Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down
He thought, “Well, isn’t this nice?”
And isn’t it ironic?
Don’t you think?
It’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
And who would’ve thought? It figures
Well, life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything’s okay and everything’s going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out
When you think everything’s gone wrong
And everything blows up in your face
It’s a traffic jam when you’re already late
A “No smoking” sign on your cigarette break
It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It’s meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn’t it ironic?
Don’t you think?
A little too ironic
And yeah, I really do think
It’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
And who would’ve thought? It figures
And yeah, life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
And life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out.
