Advantages of joining prompts and blog parties
Prompts are rife in blogging world. There are some obvious advantages of joining in and then there are subtle ones.
We all know that prompts provide us with inspiration to write or compose a blog post. Some prompts ask us to use an image as a muse, some give us a word to provide inspiration. Then there are photography prompts where one has to post a photo on a certain topic or subject. It’s not a secret that prompts help us to step out of our comfort zone and do something that we normally don’t attempt. My venture into writing short stories was because of prompts.
When you join a prompt challenge, you also get noticed by others doing the same challenge. When I started doing prompts in the early days of my blogging, that’s how I build my community, by following people who were writing for the same challenges that I was.
The other side of the coin is to host prompts and challenges. Though this needs a lot of commitment and discipline, if one manages to host a prompt challenge successfully, it can increase your readership by leaps and bounds.
Do you attempt any blogging challenges of write in response to any prompts?

I joined the daily post back when WordPress was doing it. That’s how I got to know other blogs and got some followers too. Prompts also help me in times when I’m unsure what to write about.

Absolutely agree with your thoughts on the prompts and how they help the bloggers Sadje. I do a few challenges every now and then. But yours is one to which I have been pretty loyal for a long time. Really enjoy them. ❤️

I do a lot of the prompts, but I’m trying to cut back on my posts, so I’m doing combos now. I often find it hard, as you don’t what to drop a prompt, but the sheer multitude can become very time consuming

You’ve a very very valid point Deb! I too feel conflicted when I don’t write for one of my regular prompts

I’ve seen other bloggers initiate and react to prompts for a while now but only started doing them myself a month ago. But can definitely see the benefits of participating in it for getting to know like minded bloggers and finding some writing inspiration! 😁👍

Thanks Ken! I too started this way. Most of my posts are based on prompts.

Cool! 😁👍 I try to vary mine between prompts and everyday observations if I can. But that’s the beauty of it, writing inspiration can come any way! 😁👍

Very true. I’m often quite conflicted that I should drop the prompts altogether, but then I loved to do most of them.

Oh, I wouldn’t drop them altogether Sadje! They seem to be very popular and helpful for poeple looking for inspiration. It’s just me, I like to leave more room for instinct rather than being tied to a particular theme. But if it works for you then keep it going! 🙏😁👍

I enjoy a writing prompt because it keeps me writing. I can’t do them all though, working full time, I only have a few hours to write. I am trying to edit my novel, so my evenings are always busy.

I’ve loved doing prompts for a long time, and it sure gives some fun to participate and meet bloggers. But before I found prompts I actually would write things, like short stories, and other observations. That kind of got pushed aside once I started prompts. I still think I should go back to my early way of doing things. 🙂

Yes, you should. It the same with me. Once you start doing the prompts, you don’t want to give them up.

You stated my feelings about prompts succinctly. Now my blog is all about challenges. I need to do more writing ones, though.

Thanks Marsha. I think a new blogger gains a lot from doing challenges and prompts. But we can/should do our own thing now and again too.

True that. I hardly have time anymore for that, so my posts just get longer as I use my own challenges and coffee shares to get my own experiences in there. You are very good at expressing yourself through the challenges, too.

I’ve always enjoyed writing for your prompts, Sadje. I’ve only tried one or two others, and that was long ago. It’s fun for all of the reasons you mention, and it’s a different kind of writing challenge, for me, which is why it’s also fun. 😁

And I’m always grateful for your support. You have tremendous skill where you use so many words and weave them into one poem.

I have followed prompts for quite a long time. This year I took a bit of a break from doing them every single day. Now I seem to have less time to write and that has helped me relax back into writing when the words are there. I feel freer to pick and choose some different prompts now that I have not locked myself down to one. This is my year to push my writing just a little bit farther with a few new prompts. After all they say variety is the spice of life!

You’re so right that not being bound to one prompt makes the choice wider and we are more relaxed.
