Some people are blessed/ cursed with a sharp sense of smell. It means that the slightest whiff of anything unpleasant or pleasant and their nose knows!
This is so useful when you are raising a baby and the diapers can be changed in time, or if there’s a pet is in the house and an accident happens, they can smell it out in a moment. There is obviously a down side too. If the drain in the far bathroom is blocked, they won’t be able to sleep, or a dumpster nearby hasn’t been emptied for two days, they’ll know it.
Thankfully, I don’t have such a sensitive nose. And when both of my daughters, who have these super sharp sense of smell insist that something doesn’t smells right, all my noes are totally disregarded and they start hunting for the offending object or source.

Your prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “nose/noes/knows.” Use one, use ’em all, bonus points if you use all three. Have fun!

Haha ! My brother has super sensitive nose as you mentioned in this. And I am glad that I don’t have it as it sometimes creates mess.❤

Very interesting article Sadje. And yes smell can be a superpower. They are now finding that diseases have certain smells and in some cases can be diagnosed years before the symptoms manifest. Early detection could lead to cures / controls to slow progression of such diseases. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/03/23/820274501/her-incredible-sense-of-smell-is-helping-scientists-find-new-ways-to-diagnose-di

Yes Greg, I’ve read this too. In fact some animals can smell the diseased cells.

I don’t have a super sensitive nose, but I do know when the garbage needs to go out or the cat didn’t cover his stuff in the litter box. In a similar vein, I swear my ex father-in-law was a super taster, which would have explained his selective eating habits. It’s interesting what our senses can and cannot do and how it affects the way we live. In your daughters’ case, at least they can avoid odorous issues sooner rather than later.

Very true Mary, but it makes life difficult for them at times because they smell what others can’t.

This got me. I am such. No ‘little amount’ of smell can escape my nose and it puts me clashing with quite a lot. 😊

I do not have that keen a sense of smell, and think, as you write, it would be both helpful and irritating. 😅

It’s mostly not helpful because p who have a keen/sharp sense of smell can smell things which others are oblivious of.
