Lying under the sky at night was like looking up at the vast canvas painted with luminous, stardust.
I loved this opportunity to watch the night sky without the light pollution found in busy cities. Getting to this secluded resort high in the hilly areas of Kashmir was quite nerve-racking as the road was narrow and rough in places but well worth the effort.
It was very quiet and the absence of traffic noise was like a balm on the soul. We all sat in the cooling mountain air looking up and trying to identify the different stars and constellations.
Oh, and did I mention that there was no phone or internet signal there so it was a good thing that my son had brought his beloved astronomy book.

Thanks Radhika! It was. And though it was many years ago, I still remember the clear starry sky.

I remember seeing the night skies in rural Indiana and Wisconsin. I could see the Milky Way and it all looked like stardust in the sky. Thank you for the reminder of those days.

Quite interesting. I love stars too. We used to sit in front of our house after supper watching them while mum told us stories.

I love watching the stars, though not as many can be seen these nights. There is too much pollution and too many city lights. I remember the clear nights when I was young. We would look at the sky and be amazed at the expanse filled with dots of light.

Away from the city lights, we do see more of the sky and stars.

LOVED this so MUCH! I’m fortunate to be able to see the moon–no stars for us, too busy: lights, traffic, etc.

Thanks a lot my friend. City lights do spoil the effect.

What a lovely experience, Sadje! I stargaze with my grandparents whenever I visit them at their village. It is very isolated and thus a perfect place for stargazing.

It was indeed. Yes, remote areas are best for stargazing. Thanks

Yes, in cities there is lot of external light and the sky and stars aren’t clearly visible. Thanks

I remember the first time I got up in the middle of the night when we moved to SA and looked up at the sky. Our town was so much smaller and the stars were so vivid. It was a magical sight, although unsettling in some ways to see such an unfamiliar sky. I could have been on another planet!
