February 28, 2022, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write about the farm life. Where is the farm and who are the farmers? What are they farming and why? How is the farm life? Go where the prompt leads!
➰➰➰
The car came to a sudden halt and I was jolted out of the contemplation of my phone. I looked up to see an unusual sight. A herd of cows was blocking the road. This was not a thing one would normally find on a city road, especially a road that leads to the residence of the prime minister of the country.
I craned my neck to see these twenty or so well fed cows ambling gently across the road. White and black patterned, adults and calves mixed they were free to roam the place. A traveling dairy farm!

Milk delivered to your door, and not by the milkman! Nice one!

Thanks Keith. I doubt if they wanted to deliver milk right there. 🐮🐄

I have never been close to a cow, but I do enjoy seeing them in fields when I drive past them. I read that Hindus, consider the cow to be a sacred symbol of life that should be protected and revered.

That’s true. And over here it’s a source of milk and beef later on. Very valuable! 🐄

On our various trips in the mountains we were “held up” by cattle and sheep herds moving up or down into meadows in different seasons

Liked the story, but I hope you weren’t the one driving!

No it was the driver. I’m not keen for the long drive to and from my grandson’s school. Thanks

Not uncommon in Australia, farmers are allowed to feed livestock on the verges

I love the idea of a “traveling dairy farm”. Though I’ve not witnessed this kind of sight before, I have seen groups of deer and elk traveling on roads, one must be very careful in these parts of the country. 😅 Great write, Sadje.

Thanks Jeff. In a country like mine it’s not an uncommon sight. What surprised me was that it was the road leading to our prime minister’s house!

In many places in Vermont a road might separate pastures or the barn and the pasture so the cows trek across twice daily. It’s a great thing to slow down for!

It sure is and when you know that it might be a possibility to encounter a herd on the road.
