How much interest you show?

A blog is only as interesting as the interest shown in others

Lee Odden.

➰➰➰

I think that this is true. This quote can be interpreted in two ways;

People who follow a blog, read and comment on their writing invite the blogger to visit their blog with their actions. It happened to me too. When I started to blog, I followed many bloggers. I visited their blogs, left comments on their posts by reading them and not just liking them. This resulted in those people visiting my blog. That’s how I built my blog’s readership and community.

The second way I see this quote as being relevant is that interesting content attracts people to read and follow the blog. Not everything is interesting to everyone because we all have different preferences. So what I find interesting, I’ll follow. And what others find absorbing, they’ll follow.

In my opinion, blogging is all about building your community, especially here on WordPress. On other platforms, a blog can exist without a community but here we thrive on our WP community.

Many thanks Dr Tanya for continuing this discussion on blogging.

  1. This is real fact. When I started blogging, I spent more time interacting with bloggers and my blog developed. But now, I just don’t have much time for that and my statistics are falling. Great post.

    Do visit my blog. Haha🤣

  2. And another interesting thing I discovered from interacting with the WordPress community is that the comment section is not only about the blog you will be showing interest on, but leaving an insightful and well thought out comment can result in other bloggers taking note if you too.

  3. It’s always appreciated when I get a new follower, but that never was the intent when I started my blog, I started to for a more selfish reason, to keep my mind sharp and something for my offspring to know my innermost thoughts.

  4. Thank you for this blogging insight, Sadje. I have been blogging just over a year and am learning “the tricks of the trade” from bloggers like you.
    Lovely quote, “A blog is only as interesting as the interest shown in others”

  5. Well said. When I used to have a blog earlier at that time a part of me was invested in having a good number of followers. After having deleted my previous one and starting anew I am not bothered to a great extent by the numbers; what really piques my interest is the conversation that follows as and when I post a post. As far as following is concerned, I certainly follow people whose writings, poems, captivate me and I seldom expect them to follow me back 🙂

  7. This is extremely true, both parts of what you said. I do and rather have more genuine followers. Even over on Instagram it’s horrible! With all the fake followers. I can only follow ones who I find alike or I just like.

  8. Love the WordPress community. To me, reading other people’s blogs is more important than writing my blogs. I am inspired by others’ blogs. I thrive on engagement. Sometimes I’m too tired to comment but I never click like without fully reading and absorbing what I read.
