What wouldn’t I give
To have a fickle memory
My thoughts scattering in the air
Like the dandelion seeds
But my stubborn brain refuses
To let go of any detail, small or big
Like an elephant it has a long memory
Of all my past follies and blunders
The handsome face over which I made a fool of myself
The rash decision I made to be repented later
Words spoken in anger alienating dear ones
All come back to haunt me in the quiet of the night

I have the same “affliction.” However, I have come to cherish it as the writer/ story teller’s greatest gift. If that makes sense😊

I think I can understand your point.

Thank you my friend. But, not all memories that linger are fond ones.

Thanks Paula. It was a challenge to fit in Sean Connery and an elephant in the same poem.

I think you are talking about bad memories but we should leave them behind🙂

Thanks Jane. I wrote this poem to fit all the photo prompts. My memory is quite forgiving. I often forget the bad things and sometimes the good things too! 😃

Welcome dear. Forgiving is good for our health only. By forgiving we are not doing any favour on others. Good things forgetting is not good at all 😜

Yes, we should try to remember good things and learn from bad ones.

Decisions always have consequences, but it is probably better to decide than to keep on procrastinating.

OH yes, those rash decisions, understand! It would be nice if those memories could scatter in the wind… 🙂 Good poem!

Thank you so much Joy. Some memories that we don’t want, just take a permanent abode in our mind.

Indeed they do! Just need to crowd them out with pleasant ones.

Great piece, Sadje. I can actually relate to this. I stay awake most of the times replaying memories in my head. Some good and some bad but now I’ve learnt that it’s better to shut them off and sleep!

Thanks Shruthi. I used to do that a as lot when I was younger. But now I have learned to let it go.

Love your poem! And I’d like to have less memory, at least amnesia for the bad things 🙂

Thanks Zelda! Bad things should be only remembered for the lesson they taught us!

Oh, who didn’t have a crush on Sean Connery! I wish I did have better memory though. 🙂

Lol! In his younger days, he wasn’t that impressive but around middle age, he became more graceful. My memory is so selective, I can forget what happened yesterday and remember what happened 10 years ago!

Most definitely! The salt & pepper in his beard was lovely! lol That sounds like my memory!

Yup, and he stopped playing those brash womanizer persona too.
