As he started to head out of the room, his father’s voice stopped him. “What do you mean, whatever? Do you agree with what I just said or not?”

You know what I mean dad. Whatever you say is right, I’ll try to improve my attendance record in the uni but it’s no big deal, no one takes it seriously”

No one may not take it seriously, but you should. It’s your future that’s hanging on it. This is the time that every ounce of hard work you put in, you’ll get its reward in your career”

As Jake walked out of the living room, Henry wished that some of what was just said would stick in his son’s mind.
