Sharing my world, December 6, 2021

Melanie, our host for SYW has asked us a few questions, some of them from other bloggers.

Di  (11-2-2021)  What really turns your stomach?  (politicians aside)

I feel physically sick when I learn of how cruel human beings are to their fellow humans or to animals. It just disgusts me and break my heart.

Jim and Fandango (12-1-2021) Recently in a FPQ challenge, a question was asked about fish. That ‘sparked’ a further train of thought by me about (Jim and Fandango’s discussion)

“Whether or not recycling is helpful OR if it’s really far too late for anything of that sort to make a difference?

I think anything that is done towards reducing waste and pollution is a positive step, however small. If we all do our part, things will start getting better, hopefully.

What would YOU do with the immense amount of ‘garbage’ in the world, if there weren’t dumps or barges (Sorry New York/New Jersey) where it was taken to be processed? (My question thought up from Jim and Fandango’s)

I think I would urge the government to make a solid plan for reusing plastic waste, and for proper disposal of other waste which is damaging for our environment and health of people. I would need to not use plastic containers or buy products sold in plastic bottles or containers. Thankfully plastic bags are already banned. Reusing packaging is also one way of reducing waste. Repairing electric appliances and using them instead of trashing them also helps.

Evil Squirrel posed the following (12-5-2021) What’s the oddest container you’ve ever gotten a gift in?

I don’t remember any odd containers in which I received a gift, but on my birthday, my husband sent me a bunch of fresh flowers and I didn’t have a vase to put them in. I used a plastic bathroom mug to put them in so that they can survive. I tied a ribbon around the mug to make it look pretty.

Holiday themed question:

Do people behave differently during Christmas (insert your own holiday or festive season)?
Do they try to be better?

I think that they try. In my religion, on Eid-ul-Fitr, we give alms on the day of Eid, before going for Eid prayer. We also give money to all those in our employment.

Do you donate something (money, clothes…) to charities?

I give away clothes that I don’t wear or have worn for a couple of years and which are in good condition to those who need them. A friend of mine has an organization that runs a cloth bank. They collect new, or gently used clothes, wash and pack them to give to poor people. I often donate clothes etc to them.

Do you give something to homeless people?

In Seattle, there were lots of homeless people. But I never dared to give anything to them directly. I thought since they never ask for anything, they might feel offended to be thought of as a charity case. I donated extra clothes or household items to Goodwill.

GRATITUDE SECTION (As always, optional)
This is an allegedly joyful time of year.   How do you, personally,  FEEL?

Since we don’t celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah, we celebrate winter vacations. Looking forward to 2 weeks break at the end of the month. Personally, I feel happy about the break.

Meanwhile, I’m talking pictures from my new camera.

Some photos I took when I visited my brother’s house last Saturday.

Many thanks Melanie for these interesting questions.

  1. I got a bit stuck on that question about what turns your stomach as my taste buds have been awful since having covid months ago and everything tastes so bad! It sucks!!! As for the homeless thing, giving food/clothes/toiletries to homeless shelters is a great way to help!

  2. Thank you Sadje for Sharing Your World! Clearly you think about others all year, not just now; and are generous in spirit as well as doing your part. I think your flower container is very pretty, and the camera is certainly working out well, isn’t it? Beautiful photography! You have a talent! 🙂 Have a splendid week!

  3. Lovely photos Sadje. That recycling question reminded me of a dream I had. I designed acid baths which dissolved waste. 🧐
