Honesty

“Honesty is the rarest wealth anyone can possess, and yet all the honesty in the world ain’t lawful tender for a loaf of bread.” – Josh Billings

➰➰➰

We all claim to practice honesty

Yet a white lie slips blithely when we need it

Shying away from truth is so common

We say we don’t lie when we abstain from truth

Keeping quiet when we should have spoken up

Being honest when it suits our purpose

And being evasive when it doesn’t

Do we in all honesty, really practice honesty?

  1. “Being honest when it suits our purpose

Do we in all honesty, really practice honesty?” Now, that is very very thought provoking! It’s bizarre how the human race has evolved to “use” even virtues such as honesty according to how it benefits them. A profound poem. Got me into some deep thinking.

    1. Thanks a lot Sam. Yes, it is true and very unfortunate. There are many ways we can practice honesty. Telling the truth is one which is very much subjected to compromise. Being honest in all our dealings is very important too.
