Sunday Poser # 56

Welcome back to another Sunday Poser

This week my question is;

Do you ever feel lonely? And if you do, how do you overcome the feeling?

There are certain times of the year when people get together to celebrate. And during those days, sometimes families or friends cannot be with us. At this time loneliness can strike. We feel sad and sort of let down.

I also feel lonely sometimes especially when my family or friends cannot be there to celebrate with me. Loneliness is a natural feeling. It reminds us of the fact that we enjoy the presence of others in our lives.

When I feel lonely, I talk to myself, remind myself of the numerous blessings I have in life and when the feeling is because of a certain person, I remember all the times they went out of their way for me. I find solace in my memories of good times I’ve seen and my feeling of loneliness disappear in the overwhelming gratitude I experience.

What about you? If you feel lonely how do you counter this feeling?

  1. I felt lonely during lockdown, so I rejoined Facebook, which helped. I have a lot of online friends, so there’s always someone around to chat. Other than that, not really. I like being alone, though I do miss my daughters and grands…

    1. Online friends are great substitute for real life friends. I too like to be V myself. And yes, kids and grandkids are always missed when they are far away. Thanks for sharing Paula

    1. Thanks Shruthi for sharing your thoughts! You’re right that reading can give us the company of all those characters in the book while music brings a joy and happiness all its own.

  2. I actually prefer being alone, rarely feeling lonely. But when I do, it’s because I want to spend quality time with my besties. The ones who live so far away are who I miss the most. Their hugs, their IRL smiles, and laughs are soothing. Yeah, that’s when I’m most lonely when I could use their uplifting.

  3. I am an introvert and like my solitude. Sometimes I do feel lonely, but not often. When I feel lonely, I take a walk or go downstairs to our library and sit awhile. There are always folks coming and going, and many stop to chat.

  4. Oh, yes, for sure, I feel lonely sometimes. When I feel lonely, I will first try to understand what it is that is bothering me. Usually it is not any one specific thing, and so I will write about my feelings, which helps. Interestingly, in this last year, I have found out the difference, for me, between feeling alone and lonely. I never feel alone, yet, at times, do feel lonely.

  5. Yeah, I sometimes feel lonely even when I’m not alone, I mean people are there, yeah right but I just don’t feel like I’m among, it’s like I’m lost…most times I take a deep breath, take a walk and talk to my self reminding myself that I’m loved and I’m family.. doesn’t work all the time but most times

  6. I have some very lonely night… not sure if it is because of depression or I am depressed because of it. Worst loneliness is when you are with people and feel that way. If it happens at an appropriate time I reach out to friends, or I write. That’s what gets me through.
