Sunday Poser # 46

Welcome back to Sunday Poser # 46

My question this week is;

Do you like surprises?

Surprise birthday or anniversary party count usually as a pleasant surprise. But life can throw unpleasant surprises at us without notice as well.

While most people take pleasant surprises in their stride, unpleasant surprises really throw them off.

I have rarely been surprised with a party, but many many times with gifts that I had wanted. My elder daughter is the one who lavishes expensive presents on me. While my husband is the practical type and always asks what I want for an upcoming birthday or anniversary!

As for unpleasant surprises, I usually adjust after a while to them. I think there is a part of my brain who expects bad things to happen. It is balanced by my optimism but when bad/ unpleasant things happen, I am not very surprised. I try to find a silver lining in those dark clouds.

So this is my story!

What about you? How do you handle the good and not so good surprises?

  1. I don’t get too many unplanned good surprises, though I’ve had them in life. They are nice. As to unplanned, there was a time I didn’t deal with the unplanned not so good surprises, yet today, I handle them, just as they come, knowing that life is full of them, and inside of each is a lesson about life. Thanks for the prompt, Sadje!

  2. Good or bad surprises, I would like to think I take them as they come. Like you, I think I realize that the unexpected is the “joy” of life, and can adapt pretty quickly to face realistically or make the best of it. It’s life, and it will always come with bumps and hiccups. As to the really good surprises, I revel in those. 🙂

  3. Well, it depends on the surprise. If it’s something nice I like it, but you never know until you receive the surprise. I don’t like to find out what’s in a gift before I get one. I like to be surprised that way. Hmmm this question gets harder the more I think about it! I like them, but I like surprising other people with something nice better. 🙂

  4. I got an unpleasant surprise when my husband returned from overseas and told me he’d fallen in love with another woman. Surprisingly I actually grew from the experience and tried a lot of new things, including taking my daughter overseas. As you say, silver lining.

  5. Like you Sadje, I haven’t had much, if at all any, birthday party surprises. I like surprises; the good ones at least.
    For the not-so-good surprises handed out by life, I tend to handle with them grace, positive mindset, and finding ways to adapt to them.

  6. I am not too often surprised, and fortunately, when I am it’s usually a happy one. A couple of years ago, I had an unhappy surprise that took me a while to get over, but I dealt with it. Life goes on.
