Everything in life comes at a cost
But one can snatch moments of joy for free
Frolicking in clear cold streams these kids
Find happiness in their simple pleasures
No expensive swimming pools for them, clean and hygienic
Yet they derive such happiness from this past time
Joy pure as this is seldom seen on the faces
Of those who grow up in privilege and luxury

I hate splashing, well, being splashed in the face. It always snapped my neck. But creeks and rivers are fun to play in. Thank goodness my parents saved up and gave us 3 weeks a year of nature.

I never had this sort of fun. These kids look so happy and absorbed in their play.

I’m sorry you haven’t had this fun. Most of my favorite water time was two sessions a day at the public pool. I walked about 2 miles each way and it costed a dime (10 cents) a session. Swimming, not splashing, was my passion. Still is. I’ve missed two summers of swimming. Getting old in a small town has its disadvantages. Hope you can find a place to have this kind of fun.

Thank you so much! You’re absolutely right, the ones who grow up in privilege, seldom appreciate the simple pleasures of life

As kids we would go to a lake outside of Omaha that family lived at and nothing like the feel of sand and mud between your toes. Water is such fun in the summer!
