He could feel the beads of perspiration forming on his forehead as he slowly and gradually caught up with Jane. He was sure that she didn’t suspect anything. He needed to take her unawares otherwise his plan will fail.

As she heard the sound of an approaching runner, Jane moved to the side of the pier to give way to the runner behind her.

“Hi!” Said Jack as he prepared to overtake her.

She looked sideways and on recognizing him, gave him a big smile with her hi!

“Fancy meeting you here. What are you doing so far from home?”

Oh, I am on a special mission”, he said in a joking tone.

Jane gave him a quizzical look but didn’t say anything more. He overtook her and was soon out of sight where the pier took a sharp turn.

As Jane neared the turn, her instincts warned her of danger. She had learned to trust her instincts as they had saved her from many situations before.

She stopped and made a quick dash towards her car. As she got in and started the car, she saw an incoming text on her phone; “Your cover is blown, get out of there ASAP. A colleague named Jack has been recruited to end your life”

She reversed out of the car park and was soon driving towards the safe house her handler had intimidated her about.
