Thursday Inspiration # 116 – Follow

Jim is the host of Thursday Inspiration

Respond to this challenge, by either by using the prompt word follow, or going with the above picture, or by means of the song ‘(They Long to Be) Close to You’,

Please follow me!

You all must have come across these comments on your posts. These are new bloggers who want people to follow their blogs. In fact, this happens not only on WordPress but also on other social media sites. You find this cryptic message demanding you follow them.

Well what do you do in such situations?

I have around 3600 people ( I think) following my blog. And it not humanly possible for me to follow them all. For a while I did not follow any new bloggers because I felt that I wasn’t doing justice to those I already was following, but recently I have decided to follow a few new bloggers after checking out their blogs. After all, when we all first started blogging, some senior bloggers encouraged us and followed our blogs. So I should also return the favor.

Finding new blogs to follow is exciting and one often comes across wonderful gems this way. One thing I would NOT do is to follow those who flood my comments section with their urls and links!

What about you, do you try to find new blogs to follow?

  1. Following all of them is impossible. And I hate it when people spam the comments with requests to follow! The nuisance has been increasing a lot lately. I’m going to respond to this along the same lines too

  2. I have a fair few followers too, and like you, there is no way I could follow them all. If someone new follows me, I try to check them out. Many are commercial sites which have nothing in common with my blog and I used to delete them but they just boomerang back and I have better things to do with my time. Bloggers I follow sometimes have interesting links which I’ll check out and join in with those prompts. I might follow them for a while too. I follow about 150 sites and am loyal to those I first signed up with when I started in 2013.

    1. I think 150 is a large number of blog to keep up with. I haven’t checked how many I am following, but I have enabled notifications on some of them, those I interact with daily. The rest I visit when I have time.

  3. That’s an interesting question, Sadje. As you know, I am a new blogger, so in the first 9 months, I spent a lot of time researching blogs, viewing them, and following them. These days, it happens organically. Someone checks out a post I created, and then follows, or I read a comment from someone I’m not following on the blog of a blog I am following, I like their perspective, so will check out their blog and usually follow. Wow, that last sentence was a lot of words…😊

  4. I check out the blogs of people who leave actual comments. If their blog looks interesting, I might follow. I try to read from the blogs I follow every day, and it’s already impossible. Luckily some of the blogs I follow don’t post daily.
My followers is a little over 500 and most of them aren’t active. 😂😂
I like my blog small and manageable 😉

  5. I had a very popular blog but I found lots of people who followed me never stopped by to read or comment. So I started anew under Nope, Not Pam. I don’t have a lot of followers but the ones I do have actually read and comment, so I think it was a good decision and let’s be honest any who truly read my blog have worked out my prior identity 😊

  6. I only follow 67 blogs but struggle to keep up sometimes. There is only basically one prompt I (try) to write for every day. I have over a thousand follower and there is NO WAY I could keep up with that many. A lot of those I follow have dropped off and on over the last couple of years. BUT if I get a valid new comment I try to at least check out their blog to see if it is something I would like to read. But we must remember there are only so many hours in a day. Great post Sadje!
