Share Your World – June 14, 2021

Melanie is the host of SYW

What did you learn the hard way?

What I learned the hard way is not to have expectations from anyone. Neither family nor friends. It saves me from a lot of heartbreak and pain. The result is that if people do some good, it comes as a very pleasant surprise, and if they don’t, I wasn’t expecting them to, in the first place.

Which activities make you lose track of time?

Many activities make me lose track of time;

Playing games on my phone

Watching a good movie or tv show

Why do we seem to think of others the most after they’re gone?

I think while we have those people in our lives, we take them for granted and think that we will call them or meet them “soon”. But life is unexpected and much too short to put off connecting with people we love. Pick up the phone now and give them a call. Or write a letter or email. Even a short call, text or message is better than none.

Is it possible to know the truth without challenging it first?

Some truths are self evident. And some we have to find for ourselves. It also depends upon the mind set of a person. Some people challenge everything while other accept what they are told. I think l tread the middle path between the two extremes. But one think I do seek, the statement should satisfy the common sense and scientific principles.

I don’t include my religious beliefs in this category. Those I base on how my heart feels.

GRATITUDE SECTION (always optional)

Please feel free to share your gratitude with everyone!   We can all use a boost in spirits from time to time!

In another two weeks, we would be half way through 2021! I am glad that this year is going well. Everyone in my family is either fully vaccinated or had at least their first shot. The summer break will be starting soon too and we may finally be able to go for a short vacation to the northern mountains.

Thank you Melanie for posting these thoughts provoking questions.

  1. Thank you Sadje for Sharing Your World! You shared a lot of wisdom with your answers today! I agree that faith in something might lead a person to believe in what is said and accept it as truth. Hopefully, as in your case, they temper that a bit with common sense. Religious faith transcends that though, in my opinion. Everyone has doubts of course and perhaps it is a test of faith when those crop up. Have a great week! ☺

    1. Many thanks Melanie for your insightful comment. Yes, faith has to be taken as the absolute truth in the beginning and then we can refine upon it through our life experiences.

  2. Loved your answers, Sadje. A lot of wisdom in here. True, it’s better not to have expectations when it comes to people. That way, you won’t be disappointed when they let you down which they are sure to do, at one point or the other. Reading, blogging, writing, watching a movie or series are all activities that make me lose track of time too. I tend to base my religious feelings on what my heart tells me too. We don’t truly realise the value of people until they’re gone. I tend to take the middle path too. I don’t question too much.

    1. Thanks Shweta! This philosophy of not expecting anything from others has saved me from a lot of unwarranted grief. Faith is something you have to accept as it is initially and then gather your own evidence as you live.

  3. I often lose track of time reading, playing games on my Kindle, and blogging. As for movies or TV, I limit my TV time to one hour a day and the occasional movie.
I think faith is planted in the heart, and we do need to take care of it with daily waterings of counting our blessings and being thankful.
