Melanie is the host of SYW

What’s the worst commercial you’ve recently seen (or heard)? Why was it so bad?

I really don’t watch tv and avoid the ads specially. But the ones I dislike the most are those from the law firms, telling people that they can make a lot of money if they have been injured in an accident. It’s wrong on so many levels.

What takes a lot of time but is totally worth it?

Studying, learning a trade, building a career, all are very lengthy processes but they are worth every minute of it. Many people regret not doing this when they had the chance.

Have you ever smiled at a stranger and then wished you hadn’t? Why or why not?

I try to smile at strangers when I’m out and about, some smiles back while others often ignore it. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But I still did. Now however, it doesn’t matter because few people can tell if someone is smiling under the mask!

What do you think is the nastiest tasting food? (This one might be a recycled question. It’s familiar to me anyhow)

Everyone has different tastes and preferences. I dislike red meat and wouldn’t eat it at all. So for me, that is a nasty taste. For someone else maybe the veggies I love may taste nasty.

GRATITUDE SECTION (as always, optional)Are you at peace with yourself?   Your world?   Please share, whether you said “yay” or “nay”!

Yes, thankfully, I am at peace with myself. As for the world around me, not so much because I know we can do much better. But my theory is that instead of being dissatisfied with everything around us, we should try and do our part in improving it. It could be a small thing but each and every thing counts.

Otherwise, living becomes a difficult chore!

  1. A wonderful Share Your World post, Sadje! Thanks! Your answers were very thoughtful and kind, but I expect nothing less at all. You ARE thoughtful and kind. If someone doesn’t smile back, it’s their loss in my opinion. And the smiler (the one doing the first smile) wins in any case because apparently smiling lowers blood pressure and releases good endorphins or something. I don’t do it enough and my mother used to chastise me about that. She’d say “Why not smile? It doesn’t cost anything and it improves the world.” I think my smile (the full teeth showing kind anyway) is horrible because my teeth are crooked, but I suppose that doesn’t matter to sensible people, does it? Have a great day and a wonderful week!!

    1. Oh Melanie, you’re so kind. Questions this week are very interesting. You’re right that smiling makes one feel better, elated and happier. So why not share smiles.

    1. Thanks Sonali. Having lived through some tough times has taught me that being at peace with ourselves is in our control. I try to be grateful with what I have. And enjoy it.

  2. Oooh, I don’t like the lawyer commercials either. I feel those firms often turn down the cases that won’t bring in the big money and sadly, it is the small time cases that need the lawyers to help people get compensated and not be pushed around by the insurance companies. As for no red meat…yikes. I think I would literally die without a nice steak. Ok, not literally but still…

  3. Thanks for your thoughtful answers. I dislike commercials that make fun of people to shame them into buying things due to their body type or age. As for food, I don’t like maple syrup, and I’m the only person I’ve ever heard of not to like that! : )

    1. Thanks Rebecca! I think very few tv commercials are well made or could induce us to get that product. Most are cringe worthy or corny. Maple syrup is okay, just too sweet. You have your own tastes and that’s perfectly fine.

    1. Yes, they are really irritating and are giving the wrong message. Thanks Shweta, I’m happy too that I can be at peace with myself. It took me a while to get here.

  4. The worst commercial right now I would have to say is the one for the car where the person is looking at the car across the street and not paying attention to what they are doing.

I am finding that dinner preparation takes a lot of time

Once and a while, I find that if I smile at someone new in the neighborhood, I am then their best friend and listen to all of their complaints.

    Nastiest food Brussels sprouts

I am working very hard at maintaining my level of peace.
