Lynn’s Tuesday Picture Prompt # 50 – Bookshelf

Glen is the host of LTPP

Art(including pictures and images) should evoke an emotional response in those who are viewing them. That’s why art can leave such a long-lasting and poignant imprint within the depths of our psyche

Your challenge or writing prompt is this:

  • what emotions or feelings get evoked or aroused in you when you look at this photograph taken by Lynn

Remember, the goal isn’t necessarily to tell me and others exactly what the picture is.

The creative goal for all of us is “what does the picture evoke in youwhat emotion; feeling; memory or whatever it may be – what does it arouse in you and to share it that with others.

Our Week 50 picture was also taken at this local salvage yard not far from the “old homestead.” The photograph pretty much is as it shows. Old musty books on shelves.

Books, books and more books!

Sheldon stared at the thousands of books crammed into the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. He was quite sure that he wasn’t up to the task of cataloging and sorting them. But he needed this job, it was the only way he could make enough money to pay for his university education.

I better get down to it, or I won’t be able to attend my lecture”

Reluctantly, he grabbed the step ladder and climbed to the top shelf on one side. The old man must have been crazy about books, he thought. Who keeps so many books in their home?

He reached for the dusty books but to his surprise, his hand just went through them. What’s going on here? He made another attempt but nothing happened!

Now what I should do? Are these books cursed, he wondered. He descended the ladder and went to find the man who had hired him.

Sir, there’s something weird going on. I cannot hold on to any of the books to take them down!”

Oh! I forgot to ask you a very important question regarding this job”, the man said. “Are you a book lover? If you aren’t then you won’t be able to do this job. For a person who loves books, this job is easy, but for someone who doesn’t loves books, it’s impossible”

Sheldon stared at him in disbelief, “you mean it’s some sort of magic spell?” “Something like that young man. I should get someone else to do this job. Sorry, it didn’t work out”

Sheldon stepped out of the house a puzzled look on his face. He pocketed the few bucks he was handed for his time.

No one will believe me if I tell them”, he thought!

  1. I love the twist! He can’t do the job if he doesn’t love books. I have to admit if I hadn’t had to move so often I’d be one of those people with wall to wall books. I learned my lesson after a couple of moves though – boxes of books are incredibly heavy!

    Great job, Sadje. 🙂

    1. Thanks Carol. Same here. I’ve shifted to kindle because of the volume and weight of books. Though I still keep my favorites around, but they are in hundreds not thousands.

                1. We do have bookstores but latest English bestsellers take a bit of time to come here and the not so well known authors, never make it. So yes, Amazon is the place to go.
