Fandango’s Provocative Question #112

FPQWelcome once again to Fandango’s Provocative Question.

This week’s provocative question is going to be an easy one…if you watched Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Harry and Meghan the other night. The question is simply this:

What did you think?

I didn’t watch the interview. But since it was aired, I have heard and read a lot about it.

As I just recently finished watching season 4 of the crown, I already have a very low opinion of the British Royal family.

Havingsaidshouldeverythingtrue.enoughfollowDiana’s life when it all happened and the depiction is pretty close to reality.

Now hearing all about what happened with Harry and Meghan, the royal family is behaving true to form. They are a snobbish bunch of aristocrats who don’t think that commoners are their equal. They treated Meghan much like they treated Diana. No help was offered even when they both needed it. They snubbed both Harry and his wife because they want to live a life independently of the royal family.

I think it’s high time that Britain did away with these dinosaurs. Today’s society has no place for the monarchy.

  1. A surprising number of people identify with the Royals. They are Britain’s standard of “utterly White” and as far as race relations go? We are miles ahead of them — which gives you a good idea how bad race relations in England really ARE.

    1. You’re so right. Racism was the original British standard. Wherever the colonized, they introduce this concept. White skin, higher birth and lineage. Even now, women in the Indian subcontinent are still trying to get “white” to look attractive!

  2. You do feel strongly about that, don’t you Sadje? I’d never looked at the whole Royal thing quite as Marilyn put it, but then I wasn’t a fan of the whole Diana thing (I was a young adult when all that was going on). I actually felt sorry for her a bit with all the apparently unwanted publicity and paparazzi leaping out of bushes and so forth. I had a good friend at the time who was totally wrapped up in that wedding and watched everything she could about the Royals. Me? I’ve just never understood why rich people (titled or not) are interesting to anyone, well any more interesting than anyone else. They still put their underwear and pants on, one leg at a time, don’t they?

    1. You’re right, they are just as human ( hopefully) as the rest of us. It was very much in your face in those days. Nowadays I don’t pay much attention to their antics but what I know of them, I don’t like how they behave. Besides, the way we, the people of Pakistan and India were treated when they colonized Indian subcontinent, we do bear them a grudge.

  3. I think the most surprising thing was the relationship the royals have with the British press. I always thought they had no control after the way Diana was hounded. They just chose to feed her to the wolves and apparently wanted the same for Meghan.

  4. For me, I felt sorry for Meghan and Harry. It appeared to me that they lived in a way to controlling of an environment. It was like a prison. It was very suffocating.
