Rory is the host of Friday Four
Warning; A long list of Q & A
Do you find if you are feeling low that changing the colour of your clothing that you are wearing at that time lifts your spirits at all?
The nature of attire helps more than the color. If I put on something dressy and formal, and look good, ( this is very important) then I feel better. Eating something good also does the same, at least temporarily.
What would you do with your life if you weren’t afraid to do it?
Be more adventurous. Go to the far-off places, see more of this beautiful world we live in. But I would also need bushels of money too. So how about loaning me some, along with the courage to go out in this covid infected environment?
How good is your long term and your short term memory?
Short-term memory is shot to pieces. Long-term memory is better. I can remember things and incidents from when I was 3 years old but will forget what I was about to say a moment ago. I think it’s not exactly a memory issue but more of a sensory overload.
Which is more important to you today friendship or family?
My family is very important to me but so are my friends. Most of my friends are as precious to me as my blood relatives.
How is your physical and mental health overall?
Pretty good, I think. I’ve almost recorded fully after my surgery and am back to walking 5-6 miles a day. Mental health is good too, thankfully.
I’d rate both at 8 on a scale of 1 – 10.
What is your current level of exercise or activity like today?
As I said in my previous response, 5-6 miles walk a day in 2 – 3 installments. I don’t do any sort of exercise other than walking. Maybe I should?
Were you one for leading an active and physically active lifestyle before today – when younger as an example?
Yes when I was a student, I used to play a lot of games. Volleyball, cricket, badminton, and cycling. Cycling was my favorite. As a young mom, I tried to keep up this level of physical activity but couldn’t.
By my forties, my different autoimmune diseases made their appearances, and my health suffered due to that. I got my first knee replaced at age 50 and the second one at 54. From then onwards, my health has improved significantly.
Have you found that your exercise has been hindered or enhanced with the arrival of the pandemic?
I was in Seattle when the pandemic hit the world. I had nothing much to do so I increased the time I walked. From 10000 steps I went to 15000 steps. So I’d say in a way pandemic helped me stay more active.
How do you motivate your enthusiasm today?
By trying to follow the same routine every day. Weekends are the same as weekdays. If I take it easy on the weekend, I’d feel lazy and my enthusiasm would drop too.
Do you find that your emotions are harder to manage in the current situation with covid or are you able to keep your mentality stable?
I am lucky to be surrounded by my family and grandchildren. This helps to keep my emotions grounded. Like any other human, I do have mood swings but it really helps when cute little toddlers are there to make you forget your irritations and worries.
What is your overall vitality like today?
I think it’s around an 8.
What is a typical week like for you with activity – your interpretation?
I walk seven days a week. Burn around 2500 – 3000 calories a day( according to my activity app on my Apple Watch) and sleep 7-8 hours every night.
What really makes you angry?
Stupidity makes me angry. Unjust behavior makes me furious and glitching technical issues make me lose my mind altogether.
What is your preferred mode of transport from the following: walking, driving car, train ride, or riding a bike or something else entirely?
If it’s close enough, I’d rather walk. Otherwise driving my car or being driven if someone is kind enough to do it!
Which would you rather do: wash dishes, mow the lawn, clean the bathroom, or vacuum the house.
I like washing dishes and vacuuming. I can clean a bathroom too if it doesn’t involve scrubbing the tub! Mowing the lawn is beyond me. Haven’t done it in ages.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Breakfast! I can have it three times a day!
How many pairs of shoes do you own?
I don’t know. Haven’t counted them. Maybe 15 or 20. But they all are open-toed flit flops. I own one pair of walking shoes which I don’t wear. It gives me blisters and bruises.
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning for the rest of your day?
Ten minutes if I’m not washing my hair. 20 minutes if I’ve to wash and blow dry my hair. No makeup is required these days as I’ll be wearing a mask.
What three items only would you take with you on a deserted island to survive for a week?
and entertainment! Simple.
Lots of thanks to my dear friend Rory who comes up with such interesting and varied questions for us every week.
