Welcome back to week # 16 of Sunday Poser
My question this week is this;
Are you better at expressing yourself in writing word or in spoken words?
I feel if I write something down, I can better express my feelings and emotions. That’s why I use texts and emails when I want to explain myself properly, without leaving a doubt as to what I am trying to say.
The advantage of writing something down is that you can proofread it and tweak it till you’re satisfied that it says exactly what you want to say.
While sometimes spoken words can create a lot of misunderstandings or misconceptions. A hurriedly given answer can be taken totally the wrong way, making situations worse or even funny.
So I prefer to express myself in writing, whenever I can. Though in a conversation that’s not possible because how silly I’d look, trying to write my replies instead of talking. I think I should weigh my words very carefully when having a meaningful or important conversation.
Anyway, that’s my preference. What is yours?
Please share your thoughts in the comments section.
Thanks for visiting.

I’d have thought we would all be the same. The more time involved means that we have more opportunity to express exactly what we wish to say.

That works both ways. Some people are more eloquent and can say things better than others.

Mine has to be the written word because I can correct it or rip it up! Sometimes the words come out of my mouth before the brain’s in gear. Once voiced, they cannot be retracted or erased. and I’ve been on the receiving end of that too. It stays with you, no matter how apologetic the speaker was.

Oh yes, absolutely right. Said in haste and regretted in leisure!

It’s one of the reasons I hate conflict and would rather walk away before saying something I’d regret.

The written word, where I can take my time, edit where needed, and get it just right instead of blurting it out mostly unfiltered.

Yeah, definitely better for me too. I canโt apply filters to my thoughts. Not that I get angry but mostly thoughtless remarks. ๐

Yep, I can relate to that.

I prefer writing. It gives me time to rethink what I am saying. My unfiltered blathering is not my finest speech, but when I settle down to writing, I can get it right — or very close.

Thatโs exactly true for me too. Written and edited is way better than fresh from the mouth!!!

I think I’m better at speaking than writing. I use so many emojis cuz they’re fun, but mostly to give tone.
I’m super sarcastic and can come across as mean or rude when I’m just goofing around.
Writing seems to take a great many words to get a simple point across, whereas speaking is quicker, fewer words.

We all have our strengths and spoken word is the strength for many. Writing does take too many words and time too.

Itโs always been easier for me, especially with personal things, to express them through writing. Though I will add I am working on expressing my personal self through language today too. Thanks for the prompt, Sadje.

Agreed Jeff that written words are more effective. And youโre right one should learn to express better verbally too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Hi Sadje!
My answer to your question would depend on the purpose of the message. If I need to be more thoughtful in what I am about to say, I would need it done in writing because I can edit and tweak it — use some euphemisms as needed.
But if they want to gather my most honest thoughts and ideas, I can better express it verbally. May not be articulate, but you’re definitely getting me raw and real.

Thanks Janis, this is a very important point. When we speak from the heart, itโs raw, uncut and sincere. Written word can be compromised by being too diplomatic!

I get nervous and trip and stumble over my own words often when I speak… I much prefer writing!

And I blurt out anything thatโs on my mind, often to regret it later. Written words are better
