Linda is the host of Stream Of Consciousnesses Saturday
Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “in the corner.” Write about whatever the image or thought of “in the corner” brings to mind. Have fun!
➰➰➰➰➰➰
Go stand in the corner!
Have you ever been the one told to?
Or were you the one telling someone to do so?
Why do people have to punish with humiliation
Why cannot discipline be enforced through reasoning
One thing that I am so glad about that has changed with time
Is now we all are cognizant that all people, young or old
Have dignity that should be respected, never be trampled over
And punishment shouldn’t ever be a form of humiliation

You’re so right! It’s also terrible that social media has become a public humiliation forum for cancel culture.

You’re right! That should be discouraged too.

I was one of those sent to the corner…with my desk in 4th grade. I wasn’t paying attention and got caught being goofy with the kid next to me. I got the corner; he got yelled at. Must have been holding my mouth wrong?

And you remember it still. These things left a lasting impression on our minds.

Totally agree with you!🌠💕 Kids remember humiliation their whole lives. I remember an incident from when I was 3 or 4 years old.😱

Humiliation coupled with shame were once spread more thickly than peanut butter on bread. I, too, am glad it is going the way of the dinosaur, but not completely gone yet. Wonderful observations, Sadje.

Yes, I agree Carol it’s not gone completely but there is more awareness now! Some advantages to modern culture. Thanks

100% truth. Humiliation used to be a common classroom tool — every once in a while you still run into a teacher with the mindset that “making an example” of someone will fix their behavior. So sad.

Exactly! I hope this mindset changes too.

Humiliation stays for years… this was a wonderful poem Sadje. Something that should be gone from our society.

Exactly, Leigha. And it never works to teach. It just creates resentment and bad memories.
