Dylan Hughes is the host of First Line Friday

It is First Line Friday! Welcome and let’s get writing.
Your line for this week is:
He laid awake and said the name into the night
The wind echoed the whispers and scattered them in all directions
In vain he listened and wished there was a reply
The tears soaked his pillow and dried on his cheeks
Morning brought a strange kind of calm, a certainty
That she will return, his message had been delivered

He laid awake and said the name into the night
It wasn’t a past lover
Or, his mother
He said the name of his dog
Oh, how he missed her
The feeling of her body beside him
Her loud breaths
Her even louder snores
He missed her company
She was all he had
And even though she’s gone
He continues to call her
Saying her name, into the night
