We were friends but had a streak of friendly rivalry going
Each would try to excel at their chosen field
I was good at sports, catching and throwing the ball
She would ace all exams with top scores
Usually, we could handle this competitive tendency in each other
But once matters grew serious, out of hand
I give her the credit that we are friends still
It was her clever idea, her cheeky humor that saved our friendship
(It’s a fictional tale, though I know of a few people like these)

I think rivalry between friends is very common.

All it takes is a bad mood, a poorly chosen word, or any other unrelated thing to change a friendly rivalry into a fight.
Humor is a great defuser!
Well done!💖🥰💕

You’re absolutely right Angie. It takes one bad moment to spoil a friendship.

good friendship is about giving and taking, and accepting warts and all … so competition could be part of it 🙂

I’ve seen a few too many of these situations on a football pitch.

A little friendly rivalry can be good, but you have to stay polite.
