Fandango
Welcome once again to Fandango’s Provocative Question.
Do we control technology or is technology controlling us?
~*~
My answer is obvious;
We are being controlled by technology!
It’s true that those who invent new tech are in charge of it but for the users, it’s a whole new different ballgame. We start by getting used to new tech. Tentatively we progress along and then we are hooked. We are dependent upon it and it starts to control how we use it.
Be it your smartphone, your WordPress editor, or your Alexa! We are being manipulation by technology. And behind this technology sits the big companies, who are making us too reliant on their tech.
Remember the days of using paper maps or verbal guidance to find a new place. Now it’s your GPS, and if that doesn’t work, where will we be? Or checking the weather by looking at the sky! Now if the weather app says a chance of rain, we are sure to carry our umbrella with us regardless of the sun shining brightly.
And it is partly our fault that we have let the technology control our lifestyle and choices.

i agree sadje, partly our fault though

Yes, and I don’t see a way out unless it stops working and we don’t have any option but to do without tech.

I love being able to look things up on my phone, but I don’t use GPS… I might look up where a place is on Maps, but I still know how to read a map.
People have gotten too reliant on tech and let their brains atrophy.
I remember the days when I could remember a dozen or more phone numbers for friends because we had to actually dial a phone to talk to them.

Yes, I used to memorize the phone numbers too. It’s is a good way to keep the brain active. We have brought this thing upon us, ourselves.

Technology has just made things so easy. When we went a day and a half without power even then we couldn’t give up out phones and went to charge them in the car. And heaven forbid if ATMs go down, no one ever carries cash hardly. But there are great things coming up all the time through research and development that make life easier. Some work some don’t.

You’re right, technology has made life easy. Too easy in some respects that we have stopped using our senses and brain.
