Today we will discuss the pros and cons of entertainment.

Specifically television.

I don’t really like to watch much tv. A few Netflix originals are my go-to series but given the pandemic, I don’t think we will be watching any new seasons this fall. So what do I think is the good ( Pros)thing about tv?

The fact that it provides;

•Good source of background chatter while I write, like now some movie, is playing and I am working.

•White noise when I want to sleep; I am a light sleeper and the slightest sound can wake me up. So tv can provide that white noise buffer which can make sleeping easy.

•Music; It plays a mix of songs while I do other stuff. I cannot have my favorite playlist on it but occasionally a good song is on there which I enjoy.

Things that I really don’t like (Cons) about tv;

• News; I don’t want to hear the news. It’s mostly depressing, usually extremely irritating, and too repetitive.

•Time consuming; Who has time to watch a show at a specific time anymore? If you want to catch your favorite show, you’ll have to time in at the given time. And frankly, I cannot remember the showtimes like I used to do!

•Too repetitive; Did I Say it was too repetitive? Same re-runs every year. The same newscasts repeated over and over again.

So my verdict;

Tv is good for distraction, not actual watching!

  1. We watch TV over-the-air as opposed to cable or satellite. We found that there’s more than enough TV without paying $50 a month. Add a Roku box or Apple TV, and you can stream all kinds of shows for free (though for some services you need to pay a fee, but you can cancel anytime and resubscribe when something else is on).We don’t watch a lot of TV, either, and what we do watch is at least 40 years old…

  2. Our TV is on all the time, but it only plays Ben’s DVD of choice. We’ve had Hocus Pocus playing for quite a while. Thank goodness we keep it muted. It’s a Roku TV so we use it when we have Family Movie Night to stream whatever Disney movie we’ve picked.
    I personally don’t want to waste the small amounts of free time I have watching TV.

      1. Oh, the movie is muted. There’s no way… he had one of the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies playing for like a month with the volume up… this was last year? Maybe longer… I’ve blocked it! I never wanna hear Alvin again☹🤦🏼‍♀️

  3. I only watch the news for weather, the rest is depressing – this shooting happened, Trump did that, and there was a deadly accident in town. We watch more of the reruns of older shows we used to love more than anything else. Most of the time, like you, I use if for background noise. Great post!
