Blogging Insights # 35- The new editor

The Gutenberg Editor, a WordPress editing program, made its appearance a year or so back. It was supposed to be, like all new things, better than the existing WordPress Editor. Today we discuss how we have (or have not) adapted to it:

What is your experience with the Gutenberg editor?

I tried to use the Gutenberg editor about a year back. And gave up in frustration. At that time my know-how of the technical side of blogging was not much and it seemed impossible to do anything on it.

This year in May, when the rumors were rife that we “had to” use the new block editor, I tried it again. It seemed to have improved, or maybe my tech knowledge had improved a little but I still found it too much of a hassle. It’s time-consuming and needlessly complicated.

And since I do have the option of disabling the block editor on my WP app, I have done so.

Do you prefer it over the previous editor?

And I don’t know anyone who does.

If you are not satisfied with Gutenberg, what suggestions can you make to WordPress to enhance your blogging experience?

I would tell them to leave well alone. Let the classic editor be the default editor and stop messing with the tools we have left on WordPress. They took away the spell/ grammar check without any rhyme or reason and have made other changes to it which have made things more difficult.

So DON’T MESS with it!

  1. After trying the new Block Editor for the last few weeks, I have finally discarded it and have reverted to the ‘Classic’ editor, simply because the new editor slows me down too much.

  2. I use the Guten… I’ve gotten used to it. I just told myself I had no other option so I wasn’t comparing. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

      1. I do have to remember to manually “save” often because it does lock up and the autosave isnt great. It’s a pain going back and forth between video and writing for the mixtapes posts. But just writing and adding pictures…๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ I just made myself get used to it. I wouldn’t say I prefer it, but I dont remember using the other one๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I dont remember what happened 2 days ago… ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

  3. I have been using the new editor. Its not pretty, but it sort of works. Then again I don’t edit photos or write on WP. I perform those tasks on other platforms which are more stable, and offer more options. When I am ready to “compose” a post on WP, it is basically an exercise in copy and paste.
