Today is Memorial Day in the United States.    Remember and honor those who gave service to their country.   On to Share Your World (which is global).

In your opinion, does patriotism require the belief that one’s country is the greatest on earth?

I think being patriotic means that you are loyal to the country of your birth or your adoptive country. You support your country by following its laws. You do not do anything to harm it or it’s reputation in any way and you put the interest of your country before your own.

Why is patriotism considered by some to be the highest of virtues? What is so important about love of country? Shouldn’t we be more concerned about humankind, or the planet as a whole, rather than a single country?

Yes, being patriotic should not make us selfishly concerned about just our own country but should make us more aware of the challenges being faced by the world population as a whole. No country can exist by itself. We live in a world community and as such need to be mindful of those around us!

And putting the planet ahead of one single country is just logical. If the planet is harmed, it’s environment destroyed because we are just thinking of one country, it’s just plain stupidity.

What is the relationship between decisions and consequences?

The direct and obvious one. Good decisions lead to better consequences and bad ones usually end in bad consequences, unless one is very lucky and can somehow escape them. But you know karma is out there looking to get even. So better make good decisions.

What is social justice?

Social justice is the equitable distribution of the resources all across the different strata of society.

Nowadays, it exists only in dreams and slogans.

and one ‘easy’ one because those others?  Fairly difficult.

What’s one body part you wouldn’t mind losing? (told you.  Silly).

I don’t want to lose any of my body parts but if I had to choose, I’d say my appendix. It has no actual utility so I will do away with it.

What is something that made you smile during the past week?

This is a swell recipe for scrambled eggs written by my grandson. And it is actually a good one. He wrote it for a school project and would be making them next week.

  1. Good answers! I love the recipe! My daughter did a recipe for something at school but it was a little different. She was in first or second grade I think and they did holiday recipes that they would be eating over their winter break. And then the local newspaper publishes them. And some of them are out right funny, shocking and adorable all rolled into one. I think she might have done mashed potatoes if I remember right. I still love the one for turkey that got put in a pan and cooked like 5 minutes at a thousand degrees! The kids watch and know some of it, but at that age they don’t always connect sizes and temperatures right. 😊
