FFFCWelcome to “Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge.”

The image below is from Victoria_Borodinova at Pixabay.D46DAD2D-245C-40A1-B994-36DEEB1D1215(For the visually challenged writer, the image is a drawing of an artist’s desk with a wood human body model and a desk lamp shining down on a pencil sketch of a superhero. Other sketches are pinned to a bulletin board. There is a full coffee cup on the left side of the desk and a plant on the right.)

The poster was on the wall of his study. He never showed it to his family or friends. It was his secret. That he wanted to be a graphic artist and had an ambition to make a career of it. Both his parents were doctors and had come from a long line of medical practitioners, they had the same dreams for him too. So in the privacy of his space, he drew, colored and made his masterpieces. When with his parents he would just talk about medicine and all the related stuff.

One day his duplicity was exposed when his best friend, the one who knew all his secrets and dreams came rushing through his front door while his parents were visiting.

“Hey Josh, you’ve just won the competition!”

Josh was confused,

“Which competition?”

“Oh, I didn’t tell you but I entered your painting in the annual new talent hunt and you won the first place “

It was hard to tell who was more surprised, Josh or his parents when they were told the story of his love affair with art and they reproached him for not sharing this part of his life with them.
