Dylan Hughes is the host of first line Friday.
It is First Line Friday! Welcome and let’s get writing.
Your line for this week is:
A crack like a gunshot pierced the frozen air and the ice broke.
A crack like a gunshot pierced the frozen air and the ice broke. The skier looked apprehensively towards the peaks above her. All of her worst fears were confirmed. A huge plume of the snowy white stream was in the air and under it, hurling rapidly was the snow avalanche.
She zigged zagged trying to build up the speed and also to steer away from the path of the avalanche. The frozen lake lay directly ahead and she started praying that she would cross it before the surface of the lake was struck by the weight of the snow hurtling towards it. Who knew if it would hold or break under the weight of the tones of snow. Freezing to death in the water of the lake was even worse than being buried under an enormous amount of snow. She maneuvered herself towards the right bank of the lake and just made it out of the way of the snow, as the avalanche buried everything just to her left.
She was indeed very lucky to be alive to tell the story of her escape from the avalanche.
