Stream of Consciousness Saturday November 23- 2019

Linda is the host of Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “flyer/ad.” Look at the latest ad you got in the mail (if it’s a store flyer, choose the product right in the middle of the page) or choose the next online ad you find, and theme your post on whatever the product is.

I am in the unique position that I neither watch TV or read magazines or newspapers. The only ads I am exposed to are those which pop up when I start my card games.

And the most frequent one that pops up is Facebook.

And what can I say about Facebook!

I loved it at first and so did, I think millions of people around the world. Connecting with friends and family from all parts of the country or world and sharing parts of our lives with them. It looked all good. But as with all new things, we soon discovered problems. It became too intrusive. One part of the society was exposing too much of their life on it while the other half was getting envious of their lifestyle!

Then we discovered that the privacy of our lives was also being violated by the data collected by Facebook and its related companies.

As the bubble of FB burst for me, my usage of FB has become almost non-existent. It was a great idea. It’s execution and usage leaves much to be desired.

  1. Social media is the bane of my existence, I think. Right now I use Facebook and Twitter to announce my blog posts, and that’s about it. Pinterest just threw me off, the bastards; they claim they sent an email explaining why, but I haven’t gotten it and I’ve been checking regularly…

  2. Good post about it all, and I agree. I’ve cut down on FB except to post a blog link, and I ‘like’ a couple of people’s post over there occasionally. I do play a couple of games, too.
Well, I see others wishing you a Happy Birthday, and I’d like to wish you the same. Hope you’ve had a lovely day! And, how about this – it’s my birthday too, today! 🙂

  3. This hits close to home, Sadje. I struggle with Facebook — I hate the things I’m learning about the data usage but for some reason I just can’t delete my account. But then I’m bothered because I can’t give it up. And on and on it goes…
