And the Words: “I have to remind myself to breathe – almost to remind my heart to beat!” – Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.
~*~
I am free at last. I have to remind myself to breathe – almost to remind my heart to beat. The excitement of being out of that prison compounded with the fear of recapture was acting on my nervous system like a potent drug.
I look around me and see that I had come out on a vast prairie. There is a road down some distance from where I am standing. I just need to get there and hitch a ride before they find out that I have escaped their private prison. My crime was that I was the only witness to a crime and they don’t want me to testify. They abducted me and kept me in a secluded house in the middle of nowhere.
I rush towards the parked cars on the road when my steps are arrested by a voice.
” Going somewhere, sweetheart?”
My captors have found me.
