It is First Line Friday! Welcome and let’s get writing.

Below, I give you the first line, and you all get to write the rest. This prompt alternates with Jim’s Music Prompts, so make sure to check back next Friday for some musical inspiration.

Include the first line of course! Tag it Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie, First Line Fridays, and short fiction. Create a link (ping-back) to this post and add your link to Mister Linky below.

Your line for this week is:

Carson pulled at his neck tie as the air became heavy with organ music and she approached clouded in white.

~*~*~

Carson pulled at his neck tie as the air became heavy with organ music and she approached clouded in white. His head was telling him to head for the nearest exit, preferably away from all the friends and family gathered in the church. While his cowardly heart couldn’t make a decision.

Clara was approaching, looking a vision in her wedding gown. Her father was walking besides her, giving him the eye, as if he knew what Carson was thinking. Trickles of sweat were running down his back. He felt that everyone around him could sense his discomfort.

Right at that moment, there was a commotion at the front entrance. A tall and decidedly handsome man strode in.

” You cannot marry him Clara, you know how much I love you” he told her. Clara went pale and stumbled, and her father turned to look at the newcomer. ” Luke, I will never consent to her marrying you and she knows it”

Now Carson saw his one and only chance to escape a marriage of convenience.

“I cannot possibly marry her if she is in love with Luke. It will be the betrayal of the worst kind. He is my friend too”

Both Clara and Luke looked at him in gratitude. They could never guess what lay at the heart of this seemingly noble speech.

Carson said quickly, before he lost his advantage, ” I love you both too much to let this marriage spoil a chance for both of you to find happiness “

And saying these words, he yanked the nosegay from his buttonhole and strode out of the church.

His boyfriend would be ecstatic at his brave decision!
