Thursday Inspiration 25- An Unplanned Adventure

Paula is the host of Thursday Inspiration

Welcome to Thursday Inspiration! This is my weekly prompt post and hopefully it will inspire you to write something creative, perhaps a poem or a piece of flash fiction.

This week’s theme is adventure and the picture is below. Here is the song snippet from “Born To Be Wild” recorded by Steppenwolf in 1968:

Get your motor runnin’
Head out on the highway
Lookin’ for adventure
And whatever comes our way

Octopus on a motorcycle
Picture from the Happy Color app.

It was a sudden urge to go climbing

An unplanned adventure thrust upon me

Reluctant and unprepared, I had to become

The hero of my own adventure

The climb to the shallow hill became a challenge

No one to rescue, no knight is shining armor

Only me to help me in this unwarranted situation

Limping and cursing I came down holding onto

A brightly decorated climbing stick left there

But some kindly and thoughtful soul

Never again will I undertake such an adventure

Now I know my limits so I shouldn’t step

Out of the natural limits imposed by age

  1. I love the picture! Even more, I understand your narrative. It is what I am feeling. Near here is a place called Crack in the Ground. It is a 7-mile hike into a lava tube. I’ve wanted to do this since I moved here. So I’ve decided to try and drive to the spot and carry a fold-out chair with walking sticks. Each time I will go a little farther until I’ve made it. After I am recovered from the last trip to town (a three-hour round-trip drive on rough roads and lots of shopping). Maybe I should put that picture on my walking sticks to give me energy!

  2. Natural limits imposed by age?? Yeah, some forced on you by Mother Nature, some by the wisdom obtained through the years and some by fear or apathy! Limits? We don’t want no stinking limits!! Sorry! parody on an old movie quote!!
