Fandango’s Provocative Question #40

Fandango‘s Question this week ;

How much control do you believe you have over your own life?

My Answer;

In a nutshell, very little. We are born to parents we didn’t choose. We are born in country, culture and religion which again is not of our choosing . How our parents bring us up, the financial condition of our family is not in our control. And when we grow up to a stage when we presumably take control of our lives, there are circumstances which already have decided a lot for us already. The genes we inherit from our parents decide to a large extent our health during our lifetimes.

What is in our hands then? The answer is quite simple. We have the power to decide what we do with what we are given in life. If we are put in a certain educational institution, we can do extremely well or not depending upon our will. Similarly we can work hard and rise in our chosen profession by working hard or we can be lazy and miss the opportunities coming our way and stay dissatisfied and unfulfilled. We can look after our health and win against the odds which our genetic makeup has provided for us.

It all had to do with how much effort we are willing to put in. If we want to have a better and successful life, we have to strive hard in the given circumstances.

The Prompt;

Welcome once again to Fandango’s Provocative Question.

This week’s provocative question is about control and how much control each of us has in our lives. I’d like to think I’m calling the shots in my own life, but I know that the reality is that there are all kinds of external factors and events that have influenced the trajectory my life has taken.

So I ask you this:

How much control do you believe you have over your own life?

  1. Control, like so many other things, is always changing and shifting. It has to be delicately balanced with everything else so being in control of everything does not take over. I think you want as much control as necessary without tipping the scales to being obsessive. It is a fine line.
