Omphaloskepsis (navel-gazing is contemplation of one’s navel as an aid to meditation)✔️
“Mom, what is the baby doing? ”
“He is practicing Omphaloskepsis” mom was grinning with amusement. “What is that?” she asked with disdain. Julie was twelve and thought she knew all there was to know. ” It’s a way of meditation, when a person gazes at their navel to get wise” mom was happy that she had looked up this phenomenon on the net. It was worth seeing that expression on her daughter’s face.
“Now be a good sister and put that cushion behind him so he doesn’t topple back”
Julie got up to do just that when she stepped on a playdoh mould and uttered a loud yelp. Mom grabbed some ice from the freezer and after giving her a hug, gently rubbed it on Julie’s foot. “Let’s eat dinner now” she said as she lead the kids to the dining area.
This incident had stirred up bittersweet memories of her own childhood. To stop this trend of her thoughts, she folded a paper napkin into a paper airplane and shot it into the air. Both the kids were delighted.
