Miss Wonderly murmured, “Thank you,” softly as before and sat down on the edge of the chair’s wooden seat. She was a bit embarrassed by the attention that she was receiving. She was just doing what she always did. Trying to run the committees as best as she could. But today they had gathered here to pay tribute to her services to the church and its various committees because she was retiring. She didn’t want to leave but her son had moved to another state and had insisted that she come with his family. It was a wrench for her.
